Design and CFD analysis of gerotor with multiple profiles (ellipse–involute–ellipse type and 3-ellipses type) using rotation and translation algorithm

Gerotor is a key component used in internal gear pumps of vehicles, and as the technology of sintering process is highly advanced, the gerotor has advantages for manufacturing complex profiles and obtaining durability and minimization. But internal gear pumps have been continuously required to improve flow rate and noise for fuel efficiency. The existing gerotors with multiple profiles have been designed by only translation algorithm, which is limited to improve the performances. In this study, a new automated design and multiple calculation programs using rotation and translation algorithm were developed for improving the performances of multiple profiles, and two types of combined multiple profiles (ellipse 1-involute-ellipse 2 type and 3-ellipses type) were generated. The performances (flow rate, irregularity, specific sliding and pressure angle) of the profiles were calculated by using theoretical analysis, and optimal designs of the two types were carried out on the basis of analysis results. Also, internal flow characteristics in the optimized gerotor generated were analyzed by using commercial CFD (computational fluid dynamics) code, ANSYS-CFX.

Optimal Design for CNG Composite Vessel Using Coupled Model with Liner and Composite Layer

In this study, CNG composite vessel is analyzed by using coupled model with liner and composite layer. For the coupled model, a method using theoretical analysis and FEA is suggested: elastic solution for laminated tube is used for theoretical analysis of the composite vessel, FEA is performed to the model of CNG composite vessel in actual conditions. On the basis of these results, optimal thickness and winding angle of the composite layer considering the material properties and thickness of the liner are determined. The results of theoretical analysis and FEA are compared with those carried out in previous studies for verifying the suggested analysis method.

Optimal Design of Rotor Profile of Internal Gear Pump for Noise Reduction

An internal gear pump is required to improve the flow rate and noise. Furthermore, such pumps are durable and small in size. In this study, equations of the rotor shape with multiple profiles (ellipse 1-involute-ellipse 2) were derived, and relevant performance parameters (pressure angle, irregularity, and specific sliding) of the internal gear pump to noise were predicted and compared. Rotor profiles and performance parameters were obtained by a prediction algorithm for theoretical analysis, and the effects between the design parameters and the performance parameters were analyzed. Mimmi 등은 한계곡선을 이용하여 로터 설계시 언 더컷을 방지할 수 있는 방법을 개발하였다. Demengo 등은 간섭 및 마모방지를 위한 사이클로이드 로터 를 설계하고 접촉응력 계산 프로그램을 개발하였다. Lee은 제로터의 내부누유 방지 및 가공편의를 위해 내부로터 형상을 원호조합곡선으로 보간하는 방법을 개발하였으며 Ye 등은 외부로터 로브 형상이 원인 경우 첨점 및 루프 발생 방지를 위한 최대 반경 공 식을 보다 간단한 방법으로 유도하였다. Chang 등은 외부로터 로브형상이 원인 경우의 로터 설계 및 이 의 성능인자 계산을 위한 자동화 프로그램을 개발하 였으며 Hsieh 등은 트리코이드 곡선을 이용한 로터 를 설계하고 간섭, 언더컷 방지 및 체적효율 향상을 위한 기법을 개발하였다. Sasaki 등은 내부로터에 인벌루트 곡선을 삽입하여 기존의 개발된 Parachoid rotor 보다 효율이 우수한 Megafloid rotor 를 개발하였 으며, Choi 등은 외부로터 로브형상이 타원 및 인 벌루트 등의 다양한 곡선으로 조합된 로터를 설계하 고 이의 유량 및 유량맥동 계산을 위한 자동화 프로 그램을 개발하였다. 그러나, 소음관련 인자인 압력각, 유량맥동, 미끄럼률의 경우, 각각의 인자가 소음에 미치는 영향도가 다르므로 이론적 해석결과와 실제 소음시험의 결과 비교를 통한 분석이 필요하다. 또한, 다른 성능인자인 유량과의 관계 분석을 통해 기존의 유량성능을 유지 및 개선시키면서 저소음을 가지는 치형 설계에 관한 연구는 부족한 실정이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 일정 유량성능을 유지하면서 저소음을 가지는 내접형 기어펌프용 로터를 개발하 기 위하여 설계변수가 다양한 형상의 치형 창출이 가능한 조합된 외부로브형상(타원 1-인벌루트-타원 2)에 대하여 유량 및 소음관련 성능인자인 압력각, 유량맥동, 미끄럼률 관계식을 이용한 성능예측을 수행하였다. 이론적 해석 알고리즘을 통하여 치형 설계 자동화 프로그램을 개발하고 이를 통해 설계 변수와 유량 및 소음관련 성능인자간의 영향도 분 석을 수행하였으며, 해석결과를 바탕으로 치형 최 적설계를 수행하였다. 또한 최적설계된 치형의 시 제품 제작 및 소음 시험을 통해 연구의 신뢰성을 검증하였다.

Optimal Process Planning of CNG Pressure Vessel by Ensuring Reliability and Improving Die Life

소화기와 LPG 가스통 등과 같은 고압 가스용기의 경우, 이음새 없는 튜브(Seamless tube)를 사용하여 바닥성형(Bottom forming)과 접합(Closing)공정 및 열간 오목성형 공정(Forming to concave bottom)을 이용하는데, 이러한 생산방식은 고가의 재료비와 재료 보관상의 문제점이 있으며, 경량화된 고품질의 고압가스용기의 생산을 어렵게 한다. 상기의 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 Fig. 1과 같은 CNG (Compressed natural gas) 고압가스 용기의 제조에 D.D.I. (Deep drawing & ironing) 공정이 도입되었으며, 이를 위하여 국내에서는 정격하중 650tonf 및 펀치행정 8.2m (단방향 4.1m)의 수평식 프레스 프레스가 사용되고 있다.

A Study on D.D.I. Load for Forming of the CNG Storage Vessel

In this study, a theoretical analysis method was suggested for predicting forming loads of continuous deep drawing and ironing processes (D.D.I. processes) by considering back tension and continuity equation, and FEA for D.D.I. processes was performed. Dimensions of a punch and a mold on the basis of design rules for a CNG storage vessel were applied for the analysis. To verify the suggested theoretical analysis, the results of theoretical analysis were compared with both those of FEA and experiments of previous studies. As the result of analysis, the values and tendencies of the loads predicted by the theoretical analysis were in agreement with those of FEA and the experiments. So, it is considered that the analysis suggested has reliability for predicting the forming loads of the continuous processes(deep drawing+ironing(1)+ironing(2)).

Optimal Design of Gerotor with Combined Profiles (Three-Ellipse and Ellipse-Involute-Ellipse) Using Rotation and Translation Algorithm

내접형 기어펌프에 사용되는 지로터의 경우 소결 공정기술의 발달로 복잡한 형상의 가공이 용이하고 내구성과 소형화의 장점을 가지고 있으므로, 자동차의 엔진 및 변속기 오일펌프, 디젤차량의 연료펌프 등에 널리 사용되고 있다. 또한, 정차시 엔진을 정지시키고 가속페달을 밟아 출발하면 전기모터를 이용해 엔진을 다시 구동시키는 IS&G(Idle-Stop & Go) 장치 및 전기모터 구동부에 확대 적용됨에 따라 하이브리드 차량을 위한 수요도 증가하고 있는 추세이다. 최근 자동차 산업의 경우, 연비향상 및 소음저감이 가장 중요한 문제Key Words: Gerotor(지로터), Performance(성능), Fuel Efficiency(연비효율), Discontinuity of Rotor Profile(로터치형의 불연속성), Combined Profile(조합치형), Optimal Design(최적설계) 초록: 내접형 기어펌프에 사용되는 지로터의 경우, 소결 공정기술의 발달로 복잡한 형상의 가공이 용이하며 내구성과 소형화의 장점이 있으나, 자동차의 연비효율 개선을 위한 유량증대 및 소음저감을 위한 연구가 요구되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 기존의 병진이동에 의한 지로터 치형의 형상조합 알고리즘이 가지는 형상 불연속성을 개선하기 위하여 회전이동 및 병진이동을 이용한 형상조합 알고리즘을 개발하였으며, 이를 토대로 개발된 설계 프로그램을 이용하여 3-타원이 조합된 경우와 타원1-인벌루트-타원2이 조합된 경우에 대해 치형형상을 도출하고, 형상에 따른 로터의 주요성능(유량, 유량맥동, 미끄럼률 및 압력각)을 계산하였다. 해석결과를 토대로 조합된 치형형상에 대한 최적설계를 수행하였으며, 기존 치형과의 성능 비교를 통하여 설계의 타당성을 검증하였다. Abstract: Because technology of the sintering process is highly advanced, the gerotor used in the internal gear pumps of vehicles has advantages for manufacturing complex profiles and obtaining durability and minimization. However, it has been necessary to continuously improve the flow rate and noise of internal gear pumps for better fuel efficiency. The existing rotor was designed using a translation algorithm. This caused a discontinuity of the rotor profile, which had adverse effects on the performance. In this study, to improve the discontinuity of the profile, a new design program using a rotation and translation algorithm was developed, and two types of combined multiple profiles (three-ellipses and ellipse 1-involute-ellipse 2) were generated. Then, the performances (flow, flow rate, specific sliding, and pressure angle) of these profiles were calculated. On the basis of the calculation results for the performances, optimal designs of the two types were carried out and verified by comparing their performances with those of the existing rotor profiles.

Study of Improvement in Fatigue Life of Fuel Injection Pipe of Common Rail System

The fuel injection pipe of a common rail system used in a clean diesel vehicle plays a role in supplying fuel from a rail to the injector of each cylinder connecting the engine under a repeated internal pressure. The fuel injection pressure is increased to over 200 MPa for satisfying EU emission standards and improving fuel efficiency, and a heading process and an autofrettage process are required for preventing folding defects and improving fatigue life. In this study, the flow stress and SN data of the material of the pipe are obtained through a tensile test and a fatigue test. The heading process for checking the folding defects of pipe ends is performed by using FEA. Furthermore, the optimal design of the autofrettage process for improving fatigue life considering not only the compressive residual stresses of the inner surface but also the tensile residual stresses of the outer surfaces of the pipe under the repeated internal pressure is performed by using FEA. To verify the process design, fatigue analysis for the autofrettaged pipe is performed.

Development of Flexible Packing Ring in Steam Turbine for Reduction of Leakage by using CFD Flow Analysis

A conventional packing ring was designed with a large clearance to prevent damage due to the vibration of the rotor, which can lead to an increase in steam leakage. In this study, a flexible packing ring using winding springs was developed to prevent damage to the rotor teeth by minimizing vibration, while maintaining a smaller clearance than that of conventional rotor designs. Theoretical analysis and finite element analysis (FEA) were used to design the winding spring to satisfy the specified allowable stress limit and minimum load requirements. The shape of the winding spring was designed by applying curves to the center and end parts of a flat spring. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis was used to predict the leakage of the flexible packing ring. Flow rate measurement tests were performed to verify the leakage reduction efficiency and the reliability of the CFD analysis.

Evaluation of the Structural Safety of a Vessel with Different Material(Cr-13)-Supplemented Screw Thread

), 에틸렌(Ethylene), 공기(Air) 등의 가스를 대용량으로 저장 Key Words: Screw Threads(나사산), Shape Error(형상오차), Different Material(이종재료), Hot Spinning(열간 스피닝), Vessel(용기), FEA(유한 요소 해석) 초록: 이음새 없는 용기의 돔(Dome) 및 넥크(Neck) 부분 성형을 위해 일반적으로 열간 스피닝 공정이 이용되나, 대부분 현장 작업자들의 경험이나 시행착오에 의해 제작되고 있다. 이로 인하여 열간 스피닝 공정 시, 용기 넥크 부위의 저부부터 상부까지 내경이 동일한 성형을 요구하지만, 고속회전하는 롤러의 이동에 의하여 재료가 성형되는 스피닝 공정의 특성상, 돔 부분의 끝단부인 넥크 부위에서 내경이 벌어지는 형상오차의 문제가 발생한다. 이에 본 연구에서는 스피닝 가공 후, 탭핑 공정을 위하여 이종재료(Cr-13)가 보충된 나사산 모델에 대하여 이론적 해석 및 유한 요소 해석을 수행한 후, 해석결과를 토대로 작동환경하에서 용기의 구조안전성을 검증하였다. Abstract: The dome and neck part of a vessel is generally formed by a hot spinning process with a seamless tube. However, as studies on and design data from the hot spinning process are insufficient, this process has been performed based on trial and error and the experiences of field engineers. Changes in the inner diameter from the bottom to the top of the neck have occurred mainly because of the characteristics of the hot spinning process due to the high-speed rotation of the rollers. In this study, a theoretical and finite element analysis of the vessel is conducted with different material(Cr-13)-supplemented screw threads for tapping and to reduce shape errors. Based on the results, tne structural safety under the operating conditions is evaluated.

Optimal Design for CNG Composite Pressure Vessel Using Basalt Fiber

Compressed natural gas (CNG) composite vessels for vehicles have been generally made of 34CrMo4 for a inner liner part and E-glass/epoxy for a composite layer part. But, there is a problem of material loss of CNG composite vessels used in vehicles due to the design of excessive thickness of the liner. And, light weight of the CNG composite vessel is required for improving fuel efficiency. In this study, optimal design for CNG composite pressure vessel was performed by using basalt fiber, which is the environment-friendly material having a good mechanical strength. The optimal thickness of each part (inner liner and composite layer) was determined by theoretical analysis and FEA for satisfying structural safety and lightweight of the vessel. Also, for improving fatigue life, optimal autofrettage pressure was derived from FEA results.
