Iron-coated TiO2 nanotubes and their photocatalytic performance

Iron-coated TiO2 nanotubes are successfully synthesized by treating hydrogen titanate nanotubes with Fe(OH)3 sol. The products are characterized with transmission electron microscopy, atomic absorption spectrometer, X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, UV-visible absorption spectroscopy and nitrogen adsorption. The photocatalytic performance is evaluated by the photocatalytic degradation rates of methyl orange in aqueous solution under UV-vis light irradiation. The effects of the calcination temperature, concentration of Fe(OH)3 sol and pH value of solution on the photocatalytic performance of iron-coated nanotubes are investigated. The results reveal that the iron-coated nanotubes exhibit better thermal stability and photocatalytic performance than their precursors. The iron-coated nanotubes can keep the nanotubular structure when calcined at 400 °C, and the specific surface area does not decrease sharply. We also discover that the pH of the solution has an obvious influence on the photocatalytic activity of iron-coated nanotubes. When the pH is about 2.4, the maximum photodegradation rate appears; moreover, the recycled catalyst still shows good photodegradation activity.

Synthesis, Structure, and Spectral and Magnetic Properties of a Three-dimensional Cobalt(II)-Neodymium(III) Heterometal-Organic Framework Based on Oxydiacetic Acid

Jun-Xia Li; Zhong-Xiang Du; Weiping Huang

A new 3d-4 f heteronuclear coordination polymer containing cobalt and neodymium, [Nd2Co3(oda)6(H2O)6]·3H2O}n (1) (H2oda = oxydiacetic acid), has been synthesized and structurally characterized. In 1, the oxydiacetate dianions (oda2−) act as pentadentate ligands, and each of them chelates one Nd3+ ion and bridges two Co2+ ions. The infinite connection of metal ions and ligands results in a highly ordered 3D hexagonal channel framework. The photoluminescent, EPR and magnetic properties of the complex were also investigated. A Heterometallic Copper(II)-Cerium(III) Complex Bridged by Oxydiacetate Ligand: Synthesis, Structure, Spectral, and Magnetic Properties of {[Ce2Cu3(oda)6(H2O)3]·4H2O}n

Jun-Xia Li; Zhong-Xiang Du; Weiping Huang

A new 3d–4f bimetallic coordination polymer {[Ce2Cu3(oda)6 (H2O)3]·4H2O}n (1) (H2oda = oxydiacetic acid) has been hydrothremally synthesized and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analyses, magnetism, fluorescence, and EPR spectroscopies. The compound crystallizes in hexagonal crystal system, space group P-62c (no. 190). In 1, the Ce3+ ion is nine coordinated with six carboxylate O atoms and three ether O atoms from three oxydiacetate (oda2−) ligands in a tricapped trigonal prismatic geometry, while the Cu2+ ion is five coordinated by the remaining outer carboxylate O atoms from four oda2− and one aqua ligand in a distorted square-pyramid configuration. The Ce3+ ions and Cu2+ ions are connected by the carboxyl groups of the oda2−, thus leading to the formation of a highly ordered 3D hexagonal channel frameworks. The photoluminescent, EPR, and magnetic properties of the title complex also have been investigated.
