A Design of Communication Network Architecture for E-Navigation Services

Jung-Sik Jeong; Sun-Young Kim

【The research on an E-Navigation(E-Nav) strategy development has recently carried out by the IMO sub-committee on safety of navigation(NAV). The design of communication system architecture is a key factor in the E-Nav strategy development and it may drive the direction of a national R&D project on future navigational and marine communication systems. This study aims at designing a standard model of E-Nav communication network architecture, which enhances navigational safety and provides additional benefits in marine transportation. To achieve this purpose, authors have suggested E-Nav services, which are divided into five categories, i.e., safety and security, maritime meteorology, distress, business, and infotainment, by analyzing the related user requirements. As results, this paper proposes the E-Nav communication network architecture that consists of the navigation and communication equipments.】

A Study on the Improvement of Salvage Procedures through the Collision Accident of Ships

Chang-Hyun Jung; Taek-Kun Nam; Jung-Sik Jeong

There has been increasing the possibility of occurring the marine accident and become bigger the extent of damage with the growing number and high speed of ships. Also, there were tremendous loss of lives and properties in accidents of Hebei spirit in 2007 and Cheon Ahan war ship in 2010 with the insufficient salvage response and the lack of emergency response systems. When a ship has suffered an incident, the best way of preventing damage or pollution from its progressive deterioration would be to providing a place of refuge and to repair the damage rapidly. Therefore, it was examined the recent collision accident broken out near the Nam-Hae, and then suggested that it was necessary to be improved of the domestic salvage systems. It requires the procedures of providing a place of refuge, and the towing support system which make the damaged ship moved to the safe area, and joining of the ISU.

A Study on Signal Parameters Estimation via Nonlinear Minimization

Jung-Sik Jeong

The problem for parameters estimation of the received signals impinging on array sensors has long been of great research Interest in a great variety of applications, such as radar, sonar, and land mobile communications systems. Conventional subspace-based algorithms, such as MUSIC and ESPRIT, require an extensive computation of inverse matrix and eigen-decomposition In this paper, we propose a new parameters estimation algorithm via nonlinear minimization, which is simplified computationally and estimates signal parameters simultaneously.

Real Time AOA Estimation Using Analog Neural Network Model

Jung-Sik Jeong

It has well known that MUSIC and ESPRIT algorithms estimate angle of arrival(AOA) with high resolution by eigenvalue decomposition of the covariance matrix which were obtained from the array antennas, However, the disadvantage of MUSIC and ESPRIT is that they are computationally ineffective, and then they are difficult to implement in real time. the other problem of MUSIC and ESPRIT is to require calibrated antennas with uniform features, and are sensitive ti the manufacturing fault and other physical uncertainties. To overcome these disadvantages, several method using neural model have been study. For multiple signals, those methods require huge training data prior to AOA estimation. This paper proposes the algorithm for AOA estimation by interconnected Hopfield neural model. Computer simulations show the validity of the proposed algorithm. It follows that the proposed method yields better AOA estimates than MUSIC. Moreover, out method does not require huge training procedure and only assigns interconnected coefficients to the neural network prior to AOA estimation.

Performance Analysis of DCMP and ZF based on Spatial Channel Response Estimation by ESPRIT

Jung-Sik Jeong; Jeong-Bin Yim; Young-Sup Ahn

It has been known that the DCMP(Directionally Constrained Minimization of Power) and the ZF(Zero Forcing) can improve the SINR performance of an array antenna system by using spatial signature of wireless channel. This paper analyzes the performance of DCMP and ZF in multiple scattering environments. To obtain the spatial signature of wireless channel. both DOA(Directional of Arrival) and AS(Angular spread) of the received signals were estimated by using ESPRIT. The performance of the DCMP and the ZF was analyzed theoretically. By computer simulation of SINR performance was evaluated.

Performance Evaluation System for Tow-Channel Ring-Core Flux-Gate Compass

Jeong-Bin Yim; Jung-Sik Jeong; Sung-Hyeon Park; Bong-Seok Kim

Design and implementation methodologies on the performance evaluation system of Two-Channel Ring-Core Flux-Gate Compass (TCRC FG-Compass) are described, with evaluation procedures and methods based on the polynomial regression models. Performance evaluation system consists of a step motor driving unit, a bearing transmitting unit and evaluation programs derived from polynomial regression formulae. Newly designed performance evaluation system enabled the accuracy of TCRC FG-Compass to be ascertained. It was confirmed that the size of residual deviation of TCRC FG-Compass is , while that of the conventional one is . In addition, the design methodology to the self estimation and correction of residual deviations is also discussed.
