Qing Zhang; Chen Cheng; Junnan Ye; Wei Ding

Over the past thirty years of development, China has become a strong economic power and manufacturer, and entered the middle stage of the development of industrialization. However, the deficiency in the innovation capability has become a serious obstacle restricting China’s development. As one of the eight industries in modern service, industrial design has been ranked as key development strategies in China. How to further reinforce industrial designers’ awareness of modern design service, strengthen the understanding of the service-driven feature, and better satisfy the society’s demands for industrial design of the time under the background of industry convergence; how to assist enterprises and customers realizing innovative transformation through industrial designers’ design service in technological means; how to really exert the value of design in industry through industrial designers’ philosophy in design service by means of coordination and innovation in a “harmonious and smooth” mode will be another issue of critical concern in the industrial design field.

Study on "Intuitive Semantics" of Orient Traditional Creation Wisdom Contained in the Design of Modern Mechanical Products

Wangqun Xiao; Jianxin Cheng; Junnan Ye; Le Xi

The traditional mechanical products have been considered to be structured products all the time. The concept of “priority to function” dominates the design philosophy in the long term, but it unilaterally stresses “technique” and “performance” of the “product” but overlooks “emotion” and “care” of “human”, thus making the relationship between “human” and “product” “disharmonious” and violating the original intention of human for creation. Then this requires us to think deeply. In the aspect of things perception in China, starting from characters invention by Cang Jie, there were cultural heritages being good at abstraction including “intuitive realization”, “sudden enlightenment” and “empathizing and understanding” since ancient times. The six methods of character creation reflect the “intuitive semantics” or the information referred to as “intuitive semiology” formed very early in Chinese culture. The theoretical achievements of domestic and overseas mechanical product design are presented and analyzed firstly in this essay; and then starting with the study on Chinese traditional creation culture and practical activities, the orient traditional creation wisdom that contains substantial thinking and elements related to “intuitive semantics” will be researched; finally, the “intuitive semantics” will be infused into design of modern mechanical products to think and study and survey the relationship between human emotion and technical principles, thus perfecting the innovation theory of modern mechanical product design.

Jianxin Cheng; Meiyu Zhou; Junnan Ye

The rapid development of computer and internet technology has led to human beings’ society into the era of information, and brought certain influence on the modern design and innovative design. Moreover, product design is now emphasizing on design ideology such as Humanisms, Culture and People-Oriented design. That is products serving for users and all their shapes, function, color, material and structure showing the respect and care for their users, furthermore, they are endeavoring in providing some virtual using experience including Humanities, History, Emotion, Joviality and Security. Recently, natural disasters such like earthquake, snowstorm, fire, typhoon, flood and drought always cost enormous casualties and economic loss. As a result of the government’s popularization and promotion of disaster prevention and rising awareness of the meaning of safety, emergency products come up to exist in our daily life. However, emergency indications would send people a sense of fear, which should lower their life quality. New ergonomic, mainly based on researching methods as Physiology, Psychology and Anthropometry etc., and gives prominence to some interdisciplinary subjects, for example, Social Psychology and Economics etc. It is focusing on service system and ergonomic issues. On the topic of disaster emergency design, this paper suggests three researching methods for it: PDCA model, Quantitative Analysis, Semantic Differential. Then how could Emergency Products produce high life quality? The essay records the researching theorization which has been used before. They are based on the people-oriented ideology, through in four phases of the establishment of the design goals (design target selection and judgment), the preliminary design (understanding and analysis of the design goals, design concept engineering), deep design (product detail design) and design confirmation (completion of the design goals) to practice and research.

Constructing Li3VO4 nanoparticles anchored on crumpled reduced graphene oxide for high-power lithium-ion batteries

Junnan Ye; Jianxin Cheng; Wangqun Xiao; Le Xi; Fei Xie; Yanjie Hu

Li3VO4 is considered to be one of the most promising anode materials for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) because of its outstanding safety performance and energy density. In this manuscript, hollow and spherical Li3VO4/crumpled reduced graphene oxide (LVO/CRGO) nanocomposites were formed by one-step and continuous spray pyrolysis with no need for further treatment. In this high-temperature gas phase process, the precursors of Li and V undergo a rapid chemical reaction, resulting in LVO nanoparticles anchored on the surface of graphene oxide. At the same time, the graphene oxide flakes are crumpled and reduced due to the droplet evaporation and a high-temperature reducing atmosphere in the reaction zone. The special three-dimensional (3D) architecture constructed by RGO sheets is beneficial for electrochemical performance owing to its preferable mechanical strength and superior electrical conductivity. When used as an anode, the LVO/CRGO nanocomposite exhibits extraordinary cycling and rate performance. It delivers an outstanding specific capacity of 487.5 mA h g−1 at 0.2C with less than 2% decay over 100 cycles. After 80 cycles at various specific currents from 0.1 to 60C, as the rate returned to 0.1C, the 5th specific capacity returns to 452.4 mA h g−1. Meanwhile, compared with general multiple-step methods, the one-step continuous spray pyrolysis method offers a facile, efficient and high-yielding alternative, which is meaningful and has potential in synthesizing other CRGO-based anode materials for LIBs.

Ziheng Zhang; Jianxin Chengl; Wei Ding; Junnan Ye; Tengye Li; Zhiye Yu

The city souvenir is developed as an indispensable product in every city, which is also regarded as the significant media of constructing the city image and delivering culture. However, it’s a regret that the designs of souvenirs demonstrate great homogenization, whose boring and repetitive images cannot arouse interests and city memories from consumers nowadays and this has become a dilemma designers confronting with. In the design of “weight of Shanghai”, we drew support of the questionnaires and case analysis to pick up the most recognized project that represents Shanghai. Then through comparison among the most frequently mentioned designs, we screened out the design elements. The interviewees were also required to marked the products based on the degree that how much the products can arouse their city memories, whose data can help build the relationship between the intensity of city memory and the related design elements, finally contributing to the final edition of design.

Tengye Li; Jianxin Cheng; Tao Xiong; Junnan Ye; Ziheng Zhang

As a crucial index in product design evaluation, users’ attitude, together with cognitive features, constitutes the memory network, which would further influence on users’ decisions and behaviors. In the features cognition of products, the central traits, formed based on the different speeds of various kinds of cognitions extracted from memories, are of higher attitude accessibility and have more effects upon attitude due to shorter structural distance. In the existing evaluation systems, there are relatively fewer research on the users’ attitude and its accessibility. Adopted different perceptual evaluation features, this research combines the reaction time of cognition and evaluation strength to build the cognition-attitude structure (memory network), and further analysis the attitude accessibility of various cognitive features and their influences on users. Meanwhile, semantic selections in product modeling design are supported through the assessments of design elements in diverse shapes and comparisons among attitude accessibility differences caused by distinct cognitive features.
