This paper provides an overview of new generation of ICT technologies — concept and architecture of Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) technologies. The proposed concept and architecture of the SDN and NFV Laboratory, the process of its implementation and testing is also presented in the paper.

In this paper, we present current state and aims of our ongoing research aimed at advanced interactive multimedia and mulsemedia delivery in 5G networks. We summarize the underlying and necessary properties of 5G networks, architecture of SDN/NFV and their usage in the multimedia and mulsemedia delivery. Advanced topics as content adaptation and user identification are discussed. Preliminary results regarding algorithms for content adaptation are presented. We show the advance of usage of AR/VR headsets as effective terminal for immersive application for this kind of delivery and discuss the advantages and disadvantages. We propose corresponding system architecture for advanced interactive multimedia delivery in 5G networks.

This article describes several problems in todays hybrid broadband and broadcast systems connected to processes of unique identification of HbbTV user, its authentication and authorisation. Challenges in the user identification, authentication and authorisation, based on information sources classification and service/user preferences, including multi factor methods are also in the scope of this paper. We will present our research activities that deals with one specific topic - federated authentication. Dedicated centralised security module, called Security Manager, as part of the HBB-NEXT architecture will be introduced. The concept will be extended by proposed component used for IoT/Smart Home application.

The article summarizes security aspects related to multimedia networks with special focus to user identification, authentication and authorization procedures and mechanisms. Main stress is taken into account to the secure and flexible access of end users to multimedia contents, implemented on the application layer of the ICT architecture platform. The novel network architectures supported innovative educational paradigms “Student self-directed learning” based on “Student centric” model of education, is described in the paper. Practical part of the paper introduces application of modern multimedia network architecture, with the integration of the actual HbbTV concept in the heterogeneous ICT infrastructure, to provide online and off-line educational multimedia content to end users - students participating in the e/m-learning process. The Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) based on web services, a “distributed architecture that enables software components to be published as services over the Internet through a programmable interface and using Internet protocols for the purpose of the providing ways to find, subscribe, and invoke those services” [4]. The wide portfolio of the multimedia content and e/m-learning approaches and mechanisms are presented in the paper. The integration of the HbbTV concept to the heterogeneous ICT infrastructure, applicable for the on-line and off-line educational process is described in the paper.

This paper dealt with several security aspects in multimedia systems. The possible threads of various attacks are summarized and described. The methods focused on the intrusion detection and protection, the tools that manage the trusted use of digital media content (Digital Rights Management -DRM), as well as approaches for users data privacy are also presented in the paper. Within HBB-Next architectural concept the Security Manager (SM) architectural component was proposed. This component is responsible for the management of multi-factor authentication, authorization, and policy enforcement for “multifactor levels” and for profile data access control.
