Synthesis and Characterization of Some Novel 3-Bromo-2-acetylthiophene Chalcones and Biological Evaluation of Their Ethyl-4-(3-bromothien-2-yl)-2-oxo-6-(aryl)cyclohex-3-ene-1-carboxylate Derivatives

B. V. Ashalatha; B. Narayana; K. K. Vijaya Raj

Novel chalcones 1-(3-bromothien-2-yl)-3-(aryl)prop-2-en-1-ones derived from 3-bromo-2-acetylthiophene and their cyclization product with ethylacetoacetate such as 4-(3-bromothien-2-yl)-2-oxo-6-(aryl)cyclohex-3-ene-1-carboxylate derivatives were synthesized and studied by X-ray, analytical, and spectral methods. Compounds were screened for their anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antimicrobial activities. The compound ethyl-4-(3-bromothien-2-yl)-2-oxo-6-(4-propoxyphenyl) cyclohex-3-ene-1-carboxylate 5c exhibited promising anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antibacterial activities.

Synthesis of Some New 4-{2-[(Aryl)amino]-1,3-thiazol4-yl}benzene-1,2-diols as Possible Antibacterial and Antifungal Agents

B. Narayana; B. V. Ashalatha; K. K. Vijaya Raj; N. Suchetha Kumari

Some new 4-{2-[(aryl) amino]-1,3-thiazol-4-yl}benzene-1,2-diols are prepared and characterized by spectral analysis. The newly prepared compounds are studied for their antibacterial and antifungal activity. Interestingly, almost all the compounds are found to possess promising antibacterial and antifungal activity against all tested microorganisms.

The One Step Synthesis of 2-(2-Bromo-5- methoxyphenyl)-5-(3-arylidene)-1,3-thiazolo[3,2-b]- 1,2,4-triazol-6-(5H)-ones and the Evaluation of the Anticonvulsant Activity

K. K. Vijaya Raj; B. Narayana

A smooth one-step synthesis of 2-(2-bromo-5-methoxyphenyl)-5-(3-arylidene)-1,3-thiazolo[3,2-b]-1,2,4-triazol-6-(5H)-ones (4a–n) is described. The newly prepared compounds are characterized by analytical and IR, 1 H NMR, 13 C NMR, and FABMS spectral analysis. A few compounds are screened for anticonvulsant activity. Compounds 4i and 4n exhibit promising anticonvulsant activity and are recommended for further studies.

Synthesis, Characterization, and Antiproliferative Activity of 2-(2-Bromo-5-methoxyphenyl)-6-aryl-1,3-thiazolo[3,2b][1,2,4]triazoles

B. Narayana; K. K. Vijaya Raj; B. K. Sarojini

Eight new 2-(2-bromo-5-methoxyphenyl)-6-aryl-1,3-thiazolo[3,2-b][1,2,4]triazoles were synthesized by treating 5-(2-bromo-5-methoxyphenyl)-4H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiol with phenacyl bromides. The new products were characterized by spectroscopic and analytical methods. Five of the new compounds were evaluated for their antiproliferative activity. 2-(2-Bromo-5-methoxyphenyl)-6-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-1,3-thiazolo[3,2-b] [1,2,4]triazole exhibited promising activity. Synthesis of Some New 4-(2-Chloropyridin-4-yl)-N-Aryl-1,3-Thiazol-2-Amine Derivatives as Possible Antifungal and Antibacterial Agents

B. Narayana; K. K. Vijaya Raj; B. V. Ashalatha; N. Suchetha Kumari

Novel 4-(2-chloropyridin-4-yl)-N-aryl-1,3-thiazol-2-amines have been prepared by reacting (4-bromoacetyl)-2-chloropyridine with thiourea and substituted thioureas. The newly synthesized compounds have been characterized by analytical and spectral data. All the compounds have been screened for their antifungal and antibacterial activities. Almost all the compounds were found to possess excellent antifungal and antibacterial activities.
