This paper presents a method for the determination of bending stress minimization of involute spur gears. A computer program has been developed to investigate the variation of bending stress and contact ratio depending on the pressure angle on the drive side. Since asymmetric tooth is not standard, the tooth model, which was introduced by DIN 3990/Method C and ISO/TC 60, has been adjusted for asymmetric tooth by the authors. The determination of the tooth form and stress concentration factors for asymmetric tooth has been accomplished for each different parameter (pressure angles, tool radius, rack shift, etc.). The sample results, which were obtained by using a developed computer program, are illustrated with numerical examples.

The mechanism of human creativity could not be still exactly comprehensible. It was considered that, with the development of the present knowledge management software, the subconscious functions of the human brain could be used efficiently. An extensive computer program can be an incitement element of the new ideas, and brings new creative designs on the paper or screen. With the results of the human brain analyses which seek an answer to “How a trigger-effect could be given to brain”, the expectations from the software are mentioned, which have an extensive effect on the subconscious functions of brain. A computer program for engineers and designers in the area of machine acoustics is prepared. In this article, the frame of the knowledge system-GAMAK and a new approach to design of products with low noise are given.

Basalt particles have been investigated as a novel additive for the production of glass fibre reinforced composite using sheet moulding compound (SMC) method. Compared to the CaCO3 that are widely used as filler in the SMC composite, the resulting composites exhibit improved mechanical properties. The tensile strength increased by approximately 15%, whereas the flexural strength was enhanced by 8% in SMC composites prepared by basalt particles. Examination of the surface morphology and interfacial debonding of the specimens is also performed via scanning electron microscopy. Superior strength properties are observed in the basalt particle-reinforced composites compared to those with the CaCO3 fillers.

Purpose – To characterise the optimal design parameters which are useful in hydrostatic radial journal bearings design.Design/methodology/approach – A computer program is developed. With this program, designers can determine and select all design parameters of the hydrostatic radial journal bearings. Design parameters are searched with an optimisation algorithm which is used as a multi‐criteria optimisation approach.Findings – With this approach, the designer can use the time effectively. This approach is faster and more precise than other approaches in the literature.Research limitations/implications – This approach is valid only for a specific type of hydrostatic journal bearings and within limits of shaft velocity. This approach should be improved.Practical implications – This approach can especially be used for the hydrostatic journal bearings which are used for shafts‐turned middle velocities.Originality/value – This paper fulfils the requests of the journal bearing designers exactly and quickly. In this study, different profile shapes used on iro sheet, that in which degree increase sheet’s stre ngth is investigated. Nowadays, for increment sheet’s st rength by using different profiles is expressed, in order to provide demand of “lightweight constructions going up in all area”. It is a general demand for the she ets, from automobile to structure industry, that constructed by the same but lighter designed materials. The des igns related with this subject are obtained by computer aided an alyze programmes and comparative charts were presen ted.
