Diversity oriented one-pot three-component sequential synthesis of annulated benzothiazoloquinazolines

M. Kumar; Kailash Sharma; Dinesh Kumar Sharma

Annulated benzothiazoloquinazolines have been synthesized by a diversity oriented simple and convenient synthesis involving one-pot three-component reaction of substituted 2-aminobenzothiazoles with α-tetralone and aromatic/heteroaromatic aldehydes in ethanol in the presence of catalytic amount of triethylamine. The synthesized compounds have been characterized by their elemental analyses and spectral data.

An efficient and ecocompatible synthesis of annulated benzothiazoloquinazolines in SO3H-functionalized ionic liquid

Kailash Sharma; Dinesh Kumar Sharma; Anand Kumar Arya; M. Kumar

Abstract Structurally diverse annulated benzothiazoloquinazolines have been synthesized by an environmentally benign, efficient, and convenient synthesis involving three-component domino reaction of 2-aminobenzothiazoles, α-tetralone, and furan-2-carbaldehyde/p-methoxybenzaldehyde using an SO3H-functionalized halogen-free ionic liquid ([MIM(CH2)4SO3H][HSO4]) as a catalyst and a reaction medium.

Synthesis and antimicrobial activity of 2,4-diaryl-2,3-dihydrobenzo[b][1,4]thiazepines

M. Kumar; Kailash Sharma; Ankur Kumar Fogla; Kanika Sharma; Madhu Rathore

A new series of structurally diverse 2,3-dihydrobenzo[b][1,4]thiazepines (2,3-dihydro-1,5-benzothiazepines) with substituted phenyl groups at C(2) and C(4) have been synthesized by reaction of 3-(5-bromo-2-methoxyphenyl)-1-arylpropen-1-ones with 2-aminobenzenethiols. The structures of all the synthesized compounds were confirmed by their analytical and spectral data (IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR). All the synthesized compounds were evaluated for antibacterial and antifungal activity against a variety of bacterial and fungal strains and interesting results were obtained. Some of the compounds had antibacterial and antifungal activity comparable to that of ciprofloxacin and fluconazole.

Shoot Apical Organization in Acacia nilotica (L.) Delile

Ambuja Pillai; Kailash Sharma

Summary The vegetative apices have a tunica-corpus organization and no cytohistological zonation. The corpus is divided into a central mother cell zone (CMZ), peripheral zone (PZ) and pith meristem (PM) based on analysis of the cell net. The tunica is 2-layered, the clarity of the layers depending on the plastochronic stage. The CMZ shows a decrease in depth from the minimal to the maximal stage of the plastochron. The inflorescence and floret apices show a mantle-core organization. In the young reproductive apex the axial cells of the mantle are ligthly stained. The complete inflorescence apex is used up in the production of bracts and florets.

Root Apical Organization in some Mimosoideae

Kailash Sharma; Manju Sharma

Summary The root apical organization of 4 species belonging to Mimosoideae investigated , falls into 2 types. Type I — Acacia, Albizia and Pithecolobium show a common group of initials around which the derivatives differentiate into the rootcap, epidermis, cortex and central cylinder. Type II — Mimosa shows separate initials for central cylinder and columella. Initials for the cortex and the peripheral region of the cap are common. In each species the apical organization in the radicular, seedling and older roots is similar. It is interesting to note that the tree species investigated show a common group of initials and the herbaceous one discrete initials at the root apex. Meristematic activity as indicated by n/c ratios in all the initiating zones shows an increase from radicular apex to seedling and older roots.

Ontogenic studies of shoot apical organization in Poinsettia

Manju Sharma; Kailash Sharma

Summary Shoot apical organization in vegetative and reproductive apices at seven developmental stages was described in Poinsettia (Euphorbia pulcherrima Willd). The vegetative apex showed a tunica-corpus organization with cytohistological zonation. The two layered tunica exhibited lightly stained summital cells. Plastochron depended variations in the number of tunica layers and extent of the CMZ were observed. The inflorescence and floret apices were consumed in cy- athium and floret formation. The inflorescence apex evinced a lighter axial region. The ontogeny of male and female florets was also described. The PZ showed the highest nuclear/cell area ratio throughout the plastochron indicating the highest meristematic activity.
