Initial growth of native trees on saline-sodic soil from northeastern Brazil using amendments Salts and sodium in excess on soil is one of the main factors that contribute to chemical degradation of soils from arid and semiarid irrigated areas. The objective of this work was to evaluate the soil amendments effect on the recovery of a soil degraded by salts and sodium in excess and on the initial growth of five native trees of Caatinga biome on saline-sodic soil. Two experiments were carried out in a greenhouse at CCTA/UFCG, using samples of a saline-sodic soil. The first experiment consisted of five soil amendment treatments: without correction, agricultural gypsum at the rate of 100% of the gypsum need (NG), agricultural gypsum at the rate of 50% NG + organic matter (OM), elementary sulfur (S) at the rate of 100% NG and elementary sulfur at the rate of 50% NG + OM, with 15 replicates. In the second experiment, the treatments were conducted in a factorial scheme 5 x 5, with five native trees species [tamboril (Enterolobium contortisiliquum), sabia (Mimosa caelsalpiniifolia), jurema-preta (Mimosa tenuiflora), craibeira (Tabebuia aurea) e pereiro (Aspidosperma pyrifolium) and with the five soil amendment treatments from the first

This study aimed to evaluate the efficiency of different removal methods of sarcotesta and their effects on the physiological quality of the seeds. We applied the following treatments: T1 - friction in coarse sand on a sieve; T2 and T3 - immersion in sulfuric acid (98%) for 30 minutes and washing in water, with and without a vernalization for 48 hours in a refrigerator at 4 °C, respectively; T4 and T5 - natural fermentation for 72 hours, with seeds submitted and not submitted to drying in shade for seven days; and T6 - seeds with intact sarcotesta as control. The experiment was carried out in a completely randomized design. For the analysis of the viability and vigor, we used the germination test, germination on first count, germination speed index, accelerated aging, emergence test, emergence speed index, number of leaves, plant height, stem diameter, and root length. The data were submitted to analysis of variance and Tukey test. Seeds submitted to fermentation showed the highest germination and emergence values. However, it was not statistically different from the control, probably due to the sensitivity to desiccation or seed dormancy, which was shown in the accelerated aging test.

The Physalis peruviana L. presents great nutritional value and economic viability, becoming an alternative for the small and medium producer and an innovation for the Brazilian horticulture. However, some information on cultivation, are still scarce. In this context, our objective is to characterizing the phenological phases and productivity of the Physalis peruviana cultivated in a greenhouse in the semiarido paraibano. This work was done in the experimental farm of the Federal University of Campina Grande, campus Pombal, Paraiba. The experiment was driven in a randomized blocks design, with five repetitions, each repetition constituted of five plants. The phenological phases were determined through the height, diameter of the stem, number of leaves, floral buttons, flowers and fruits per plant, production and productivity. The data were submitted to the variance analysis and polynomial regression. The vegetative phase of the Physalis peruviana L. is concluded in a period understood among 32 to 45 days after the transplant (DAT) and the reproductive phase extends until 161 DAT. In the conditions of the semiarid, the crop of the fruits of the Physalis peruviana L. begins to 71 DAT, with a dear productivity of approximately 2 340.95 kg ha-1.
