Useful Effects of Melatonin in Peripheral Nerve Injury and Development of the Nervous System

This review summarizes the role of melatonin (MLT) in defense against toxic-free radicals and its novel effects in the development of the nervous system, and the effect of endogenously produced and exogenously administered MLT in reducing the degree of tissue and nerve injuries. MLT was recently reported to be an effective free radical scavenger and antioxidant. Since endogenous MLT levels fall significantly in senility, these findings imply that the loss of this antioxidant could contribute to the incidence or severity of some age-related neurodegenerative diseases. Considering the high efficacy of MLT in overcoming much of the injury not only to the peripheral nerve but also to other organs, clinical trials for this purpose should be seriously considered.

Clinical Use and Patentability of Cord Blood

BACKGROUND The blood in the umbilical cord that provides the connection between mother and fetus during pregnancy is called cord blood. The blood of umbilical cord which is usually got rid of following birth, is a very rich stem cell source. OBJECTIVE Cord blood collection gives no harm to the mother and baby. Besides, its allogeneic and autologous usage, the most important disadvantage is that the number of cells is insufficient in adults. CONCLUSION Today, it is predominantly used for therapeutic purposes for many diseases. The aim of this review is giving a detailed information about groups of stem cells in cord blood and determining the point of clinical use.

The Insular Cortex: Histological and Embryological Evaluation

Following the development of the morphological sciences, the brain has been first anatomically and histologically evaluated. With the new technology, important information about physiology was obtained after CT, MR, and PET. The insula discovered by Johann Christian Reil protected the mystery until recent days. The main purpose of this book chapter is to gather information about the histology and development of the insula and to elaborate on its morphological concepts. Understanding the various pathologies and surgical procedures being performed in this area is useful for clinical and basic scientists.

Spina Bifida: Morphological Features, Molecular Regulations andSignal Pathways

The main aim of this article is to review the knowledge about the closure defect of the vertebral column calls spina bifida. The anatomic, embryologic and molecular biologic knowledge about this condition is reevaluated with checking the contentful dry bone collection. Determined spina bifida samples, types in any part of vertebral column reviewed under the light of increasing recent literature. The review also gives attention to the cervical, thoracic regional, anterior and partial closure defect possibilities and clinical conditions, which are not emphasized adequately and are thought as a separate case status but are severe or mild types of spina bifida. Most common sites, especially sacral region of spina bifida and present incidence in different nations assessed and compared with our dry bone series. Regional incidence, types and clinical conditions of spina bifida reviewed under the light of the recent embryologic and molecular biologic studies. This review will give tidy think and aspect of morphology and clinics of spina bifida throughout of the vertebral column.

Hücre içi trafik ve hücre davranış özellikleri

Hucre davranisi ve farklilasmasinin yani sira hucre bolunme modeli de canlilar icin hayati onem tasimaktadir. Hucresel farklilasma ve hucre cesitliligi, dogrudan ve dolayli olarak erken embriyonik asamada hucre iskeleti, hucre polaritesi, hucre ici ve hucre disi sinyaller gibi biyolojik sureclerin yani sira, hucre sekli ve hareketinden de etkilenir. Atipik hucre davranisi, embriyogenezde ve bazen onkogenezde gozlenmektedir. Hucre ici trafik, hucrenin disaridan gelen sinyallere verdigi cevaplar ve hucre davranisi yonunden daha kapsamli degerlendirilmelidir. Bu derlemenin amaci: hucre davranisinin anlasilmasinda onemli yer tutan; hucre bolunme mekanizmalari acisindan hucre sekli, hucrenin farklilasma kapasitesi, hucre iskeleti, hucre motilitesi ve hucre polaritesi kavramlarini birbirleri ile iliskilendirerek aciklamaktir.

Hematoksilen-eozin ile boyalı preparatların immünohistokimyasal olarak tekrar boyanması: Histoteknik bir çalışma

Amac : Bu calismada hematoksilen-eozin boyali bir preparatta boyanin kaldirilmasi ve bu preparatin farkli histokimyasal ve immunohistokimyasal boyamalar icin uygun hale getirilmesi icin bir protokol olusturulmasi amaclandi. Gerec ve yontemler : Sican karaciger ve bobrek preparatlari kullanilarak yapilan bu teknik calismada hematoksilen-eozin boyasinin, gelistirilen protokolle uzaklastirilmasi saglandi ve ardindan anti-iNOS boyasi uygulandi. Bulgular : Hematoksilen-eozin ile boyali preparatlara, gelistirilen protokol uygulandiginda preparat uzerinde histolojik boyaya ait hicbir kalintinin kalmadigi saptandi. Sican karaciger ve bobrek preparatlarinda, hematoksilen-eozin boyasi ile boyama yapilan preparatlarda bu dokulara ait temel yapilar protokol surecinin neden oldugu bir bozulmaya maruz kalmadan goruntulendi. Sonuc : Bu calismada olusturulan protokol ile boyasiz hale getirilen preparatlarin ekonomik ve etkin bir sekilde hem histokimyasal hem de immunohistokimyasal olarak tekrar boyanmasi saglanabilmis ve histoloji laboratuvarlarinin arsivlerindeki preparatlarin etkin sekilde yeniden degerlendirebilecegi gosterilmistir.

Sıçan testisinde subakut deltametrin maruziyetinin etkileri: Histopatolojik bir çalışma

Amac : Bu calismada bir hayvan modelinde deltametrinin toksisitenin testis histolojisi uzerindeki etkileri degerlendirildi. Gerec ve yontemler : Agirliklari 200-220 gram olan toplam 36 yetiskin erkek Sprague-Dawley albino cinsi sican dort gruba ayrildi. Grup 1 sicanlara deltametrin 15 mg/kg/gun, grup 2 sicanlara deltametrin 30 mg/kg/gun, grup 3 sicanlara deltametrin 60 mg/kg/gun ve grup 4 sicanlara (kontrol grubu) %0.9 sodyum klorur 1 mL/kg/gun 30 gun boyunca oral gavaj yolu ile verildi. Bulgular : Deltametrin uygulanmis sicanlarin testislerinde; seminifer tubullerde ve spermatogenik seri hucrelerinde hasarlanma tespit edildi. Ozellikle, seminifer tubullerde atrofi ve tunika albugineada incelme saptandi. Bu degisiklikler artan doz ile dogrudan baglantili idi. Sonuc : Sicanlarda deltametrin kullanimi doza bagli olarak testis toksisitesine yol acmaktadir.
