Fusion is a developmental anomaly of dental hard tissues characterised by the union of two adjacent teeth. It can be complete or nincomplete and commonly seen in deciduous than in the permanent dentition with higher frequency in anterior maxillary regions. nTalon’s cusp is an unusual cuspal projection from the lingual aspect of the tooth with normal enamel and dentin and varying degree nof pulp tissue. It commonly affects the permanent maxillary lateral incisors followed by central incisors and canines. Talon cusp nis mostly found on the lingual aspect of teeth and rarely it projects from the facial aspect. We hereby report a case of fusion of npermanent left central and lateral incisor with facial talon cusp which is rarely reported.

Erythema multiforme (EM) is an acute mucocutaneous hypersensitivity reaction characterized by skin eruptions with or without oral or other mucous membrane lesions. The main two variants are erythema minor and erythema major. Oral disease with typical EM lesions has been suggested as a third variant of EM. Known as oral EM, it is reported less and has no target lesions unlike the other two types, in its primary presentation. Objective: To report a manifestation of a rare case of oral EM and discuss various forms of EM including its management. Case report: A 22-year-old male patient reported with a complaint of oral and lip ulcers and severe pain for the past 7 days. The patient reported spontaneous onset of the lesions in the form of vesicles after consuming unknown artificially colored food items. The vesicles ruptured within two days leaving ulcers on the lips and the intraoral mucosa, with blood encrustations. The patient was unable to take food, was admitted for hydration, and was kept on corticosteroids. It took around three weeks for the patient to completely recover. Conclusion: The positive history of artificially colored food intake followed by the sudden onset of lesions and eruptions on the lips and oral mucosa led us to the diagnosis of oral EM. Early recognition and timely intervention benefits patients because the lesions associated with EM and related disorders can compromise life.

The trailing trials of humiliation: Legal, social, and medical perspectives of women facing domestic violence in India

Kumuda Rao; KShambu Sharma; ShreeshaU Kumar; KVighnaraj Bhat; SubhasG Babu

Globally, violence within the home is universal across culture, religion, class, and ethnicity. Despite its widespread prevalence, such violence is not customarily acknowledged and has remained invisible-a problem thought unworthy of legal or political attention. The social construction of the divide between public and private life underlies the major problem of addressing the hidden nature of domestic violence against women. Legal jurisprudence has historically considered the domain of the house to be within the control and unquestionable authority of the male head of household. Thus, acts of violence against members of the household, whether wife or child, were perceived as discipline and essential for maintaining the rule of authority within the family. Except for sensational cases, the fear of social isolation and inhibition has caused the insidious everyday violence experienced by huge numbers of women to be hidden in the private domain. In this review, we make an attempt towards briefing the legal, social, and medical perspectives of women facing domestic violence.

Background and Aims: The aim of this study was to estimate the detoxification status of serum and saliva by assessing the serum and salivary Vitamin C in oral potentially malignant disorders and oral cancer. Subjects and Methods: A total of 90 subjects, 30 subjects with oral potentially malignant disorders, 30 subjects with oral cancer, and 30 healthy subjects (controls) were included in the study. Serum and saliva were collected and levels of Vitamin C were assessed. Data obtained was analyzed using ANOVA test for the comparison between the groups. Post hoc Tukeys analysis was used for the comparison of the two study groups to the control group. Correlation between the groups was done using Pearsons correlation coefficient test. Results: The mean serum and salivary Vitamin C levels were decreased significantly in potentially malignant disorders and oral cancer when compared to healthy subjects. Conclusions: As significant reduction of Vitamin C is seen in saliva, it can be stated that saliva can be used as a reliable, noninvasive biomarker in diagnosis and management of potentially malignant disorders and oral cancer.

Kumuda Rao; Subhas Babu; Renita Lorina Castelino; Supriya Bhat

Binder′s syndrome (BS) or Maxillo-nasal dysplasia is a congenital malformation described first by Noyes. The syndrome was not recognized until Binder′s comprehensive report of three unrelated children in 1962. In patients with BS, the mid-face appears flattened, the columella is short and the upper lip slants backward. We hereby present a case with these typical findings of BS in a male patient.
