Influence of Combustion Flame on Breakdown Characteristics of Vertical-Model Power Lines

Kwang-Seo Park; In-Sik Kim

Occurring forest fire or burning bushes beneath overhead transmission lines have caused breakdown disturbances of the system in many countries. In this study, experiments for flashover characteristics in the simulated condition of vertical power lines were conducted so as to investigate the reduction in insulation strength caused by combustion flame. As the results of an experimental investigation, it is demonstrated that flame can reduce breakdown voltages of the model lines according to height(h) of flame. The breakdown voltages were decreased with decreasing the height(h) of flame it can be seen that the average reduction of flashover levels, in comparison with the no-flame case, are 46.2[%] for h

Recently, ozone has been utilized in various fields thanks to its effectiveness, and has been in ever-growing demand. Accordingly, various kinds of ozonizers have been examined among researchers. This paper is concerned with developing the cascade-type plate electrode ozonizer(PTO) for improvements of indoor air, water supply and drainage and investigating its characteristics. Four types of ozonizers have been devised according to their size, numbers and arrangement Electric discharge area of each type of ozonizer has the same size of 22,400[], and its discharge power has the maximum 40[w]. As the result of having studied ozone generation ozone concentration and ozone yield characteristics of each ozonizer, we found that the type of ozonizer in which eight plates were arranged into cascade type(PTO-4) was the most excellent one.

With the improvement of industrial society, high quality electrical energy, simplification of operation and maintenance, and ensuring reliability are being required. Also we request an urgent change from SF? gas to an environment-friendly gas insulation material. In this paper, the experiments of breakdown characteristics by pressure and gap change of N₂/O₂ mixture gas through a GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear) model were described. This paper reviews basic data of the surface discharge characteristics for Teflon resin in not only pure N2, N₂:O₂ mixture gas as being focused on environmentally-friendly insulating gas, but also SF?. Also, insulation characteristics by breakdown voltage and surface discharge voltage of N₂:O₂ mixture gas in the experimental chamber were studied.

Eun-Hyeok Choi; Chang-Ho Lim; Dae-Hee Yoon; Kwang-Seo Park; Lee-Kook Kim; Kwang-Sik Lee

In this paper the experiments of breakdown characteristics by temperature change of SF? gas (GSF?), and SF? liquid (LSF?) in model GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear) are described. From the experiments results, the breakdown characteristics classify the vapor stage of SF? according to Paschens law, in which the gas & liquid coexisted stage of voltage value increases, resulting in much deviation and the breakdown of voltage (V B ) low stage as the interior of the chamber gets filled with a mixture of SF? that is not liquefacted and remaining air that cannot be ventilated. The ability of LSF? insulation is higher than the high-pressurized SF? gas. The breakdown characteristics of LSF? were produced by bubble formed evaporation of LSF? and bubbles caused by high electric emission. It is considered in this paper that the results are fundamental data for electric insulation design of superconductor and cryogenic equipments machinery that will be studied and developed in the future.

A Study on the Insulation Diagnosis to measure Radiated Electromagnetic Waves with Partial Discharge Propagation at being of Conductive Particle in model GIS

Kwang-Seo Park

Partial discharge were simulated by conductive particle which could be easy accumulated charge and concentrated electric field in the model GIS. Radiated electromagnetic waves were measured and analyzed by using spectrum analyzer and antenna () for measurement of EMI EMC in accordance with occurrence and propagation of partial discharge. This paper suggested the other method of detecting and estimating of partial discharge for insulation diagnosis of GIS being conductive particle by measurement and analysis of radiated electromagnetic waves. From results of this study, it was confirmed that if the suggested method should be used for the diagnosis of insulation in the model GIS being conductive particle, detecting partial discharge and estimating discharge propagation will be possible.

Characteristics of Radiated Electromagnetic Waves in Model GIS with Electrical Trouble and Design of Insulted Diagnosis UHF Sensor

Kwang-Seo Park

In this paper partial discharge were simulated by conducted particle, a fine protrusion, surface discharge, which could be easy accumulated charge and concentrated electric field in the model GIS. In this times this paper measured and analyzed the radiated electromagnetic waves by using spectrum analyzer and antenna ( for measurement of EMI EMC in accordance with occurrence and propagation of partial discharge. In the basis of this results, a novel UHF(Ultra High Frequency) spherical sensor is presented. The measured impedance bandwidth of the proposed antenna is from 0.3[GHz] to 1.7[GHz]. Form results of this study, this antenna will be playing an important role for the sensor for insulation diagnosis system by UHF method of real site GIS and power equipment using gas.

Eun-Hyuck Choi; Kwang-Seo Park; Jong-Whan Kim; Chang-Ho Lim; Kwang-Sik Lee

The malfunctioning of power equipments is being pointed out as the biggest problem because insulation characteristics would cause a huge change due to the depreciation of temperature resulting in liquefaction. Accordingly, a research to minimize the possibility in the outbreak of partial discharge through designing an ideal insulation layout considering the outer environment and a number of items for accidents is required. In this paper, the insulation characteristics of SF6 according to change in pressure and temperature when the certain amount of gas exists in the chamber is investigated. In addition, the phase transition characteristics and the breakdown voltage characteristics using AC high-voltage has been researched

In this paper, insulations characteristics by temperature changes() of gas in the experimental chamber were studied. From this result, The breakdown characteristics classify the vapor stage of according the Paschen`s law, the gas & liquid coexisted stage of voltage value increases & much deviation and the VB low stage as the interior of chamber gets filled with mixture of that are not liquefacted and remaining air which couldn`t be ventilated. In addition the ability of insulation of liquid was higher than that of the highly pressurized gas. In this research, we want to provide the base data on designing insulation of high-temperature superconductor and the cryogenic equipments by investigating the insulation characteristics of .

This paper simulated partial discharge caused by 22.9[kV] power cable using XLPE(Peroxide Crosslinkable Polyethylene) insulation having the outside damage. As one of the insulation diagnostic method a radiated electromagnetic waves were measured by an UHF method using a BiconiLog antenna(EMCO-3142) and a spectrum analyzer used to measure EMI, EMC. From results of this study, It was confirmed that discharge Ogress were possible to be estimated by the proposed method.
