Adaptive repetitive control for an eccentricity compensation of optical disk drivers

Kyung-Bae Chang; Il-Joo Shim; Gwi-Tae Park

This paper present an adaptive repetitive control scheme for optical disk drivers to track a periodic reference signal with dynamic change in period. Periodic disturbances can be adequately attenuated using the concept of repetitive control, provided the known period. Optical disk drivers support various speeds. So optical disk drivers have the varying periodic disturbance. To deal with time varying periodic disturbances, a proposed repetitive controller is turned based on repetitive control to change sampling frequency to follow the change of reference period The proposed adaptive repetitive control consists of two portions, the repetitive controller and the frequency multiplier, where the former uses a varying sampler operating at a variable sampling rate maintained at fixed multiple times of the disturbance frequency and the latter generate the vary sampling frequency based on the disturbance frequency. An adaptive repetitive control scheme is proposed, implemented on experimental set of an optical disk driver, and demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods and the improvement of the random access time.

A novel method of adaptive repetitive control for optical disk drivers

Kyung-Bae Chang; Gwi-Tae Park

In optical disk drives, which support various speeds, it is not avoidable to have a varying periodic disturbance. However, it is still possible to control optical disk drives by using a controller which repeatedly control the drive to change sampling frequency to follow the change of reference period. This paper introduces an adaptive repetitive control method to attenuate the periodic disturbances. The proposed adaptive repetitive control is built with two parts, the repetitive controller and the frequency multiplier. The repetitive controller uses a varying sampler operating at a variable sampling rate maintained at fixed multiple times of the disturbance frequencies and the frequency multiplier generates the varying sampling frequencies based on the disturbance frequency.

Clustering Algorithm in Wireless Sensor Networks Using Transmit Power Control and Soft Computing

Kyung-Bae Chang; Young-Bae Kong; Gwi-Tae Park

Minimizing power consumption of node is important in wireless sensor networks. Transmit power control and clustering can reduce the energy consumption efficiently when nodes are non-homogeneously dispersed in space. This paper presents the clustering algorithm in wireless sensor networks. The clustering algorithm is based on the optimization of transmit power level by using the soft computing approaches. This solution determines the node transmit power level statistically and achieves energy savings efficiently.

A Method of Controlling Packet Transmission Rate with Fuzzy Logic for Ad Hoc Networks

Kyung-Bae Chang; Tae-Hwan Son; Gwi-Tae Park

As the buildings become intelligent with the development of information communication, many facilities have appeared. Usually, each facility performed independent functions, but with the development of the internet, the facilities integrate with each other and perform various new abilities. At present, in order to offer linked service by integrating, PC servers are being used. However, the use of a PC server is expensive, consumes a lot of electricity and needs a lot of room. Therefore, this paper proposes the Embedded Web Server, which can substitute the existing PC server and control devices through the Web. Also, we propose integration through wireless communication, which can solve problems like complicating wiring and space restriction.

Dynamic control of packet transmission rate using fuzzy logic for ad hoc networks

Kyung-Bae Chang; Tae-Hwan Son; Gwi-Tae Park

In this research, a packet transmission rate control scheme between nodes on a wireless Ad-hoc network is proposed considering the characteristics of Wireless LAN rent transmission efficiencies by different transmission distances. Many energy efficient routing algorithms researches have been conducted only on the assumption of ideal experimental cases. This paper considers the way of finding suitable transmission rate for the transmission distances between nodes on a mobile Ad-hoc networks so that a more realizable method is presented. In this research, a controlling algorithm for transmission data rates by the distances between mobile nodes is realized using Fuzzy logic, possibly available to be applied to Ad-hoc network routing, and simulations are conducted to verify the enhancements in throughput.

Kyung-Bae Chang; Dong-Wha Kim; Gwi-Tae Park

In this paper, a method of controlling packet transmission rate between nodes on an Ad-hoc network is proposed considering the characteristics of IEEE 802.11 possessing different transmission efficiencies by different transmission distances. There have been a lot of researches about algorithms for efficient routing and power saving using static power sources in the field of mobile Ad-hoc networks up until now. However, those researches have been conducted only on the assumption of ideal experimental cases. This paper considers the way of finding adequate transmission rate for the transmission distances between nodes on a mobile Ad-hoc networks so that a more realizable method is presented. In this research, a controlling algorithm for transmission data rates by the distances between mobile nodes is realized using Fuzzy logic, possibly available to be applied to Ad-hoc network routing.

Separated ethernet algorithm for intelligent building network integration using TCP/IP

Kyung-Bae Chang; Il-Joo Shim; Gwi-Tae Park

In the wireless sensor networks, sensor nodes are generally clustered under the necessity. GPSR which Brad Karp et al. proposed, is routing algorithm that has follow advantages: GPSR is localized algorithm to find routes and sensor nodes have few data for routing. These features make GPSR be adapted to sensor networks. But, forwarding a packet is able to be failed because of geographic data error or mobility of sensor nodes. In order to improve such a problem, this paper proposes clustered GPSR by fuzzy membership.
