Heavy Metal Ions Separation on Thin Layer of Impregnated Carbamide- Formaldehyde Polymer

Sarang S. Dhote; Lata Deshmukh; Lalitmohan J. Paliwal

Various heavy metal ions such as Pb2+, Hg2+, Cd2+, Zn2+, Co2+, Ni2+, Cu2+, Fe3+, UO2 2+, VO2+ and Bi3+ have been chromatographed on thin layer of carbamide-formaldehyde polymer impregnated with sodium diethyl- dithiocarbamate and its admixture with Na2 CO3 , NaCl, EDTA, H3 PO4 and NaOH. Common solvent namely acetone, benzene, carbon tetrachloride, methanol and ethanol have been used as mobile phases. Semiquantitative determination of Hg2+, Bi3+ and Ni2+ by visual comparison of color intensities on the TLC plates as well as by measurement of spot area was attempted.

Synthesis, spectral and thermal aspect of transition metal coordination polymers with bis-hydrazone ligand

Sudhir S. Bhuyar; Smita S. Kharkale-Bhuyar; Ratiram Gomaji Chaudhary; Nilesh V. Gandhare; Harjeet D. Juneja; Lalitmohan J. Paliwal

A few coordination polymeric assemblies of the type {[M(dddinh)(H2O)2].xH2O}n (where M = Mn(II), Ni(II), and Cu(II), x = 2; and Co(II), x = 0, with (N′,N″E,N′,N″E)-N′,N″-(1,2-diphenylethane-1,2diylidene) diisonicotino-hydrazide (dddinh)) have been synthesized and characterized by using various spectroscopic techniques such as elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), diffuse reflectance spectra, magnetic measurements and thermo gravimetric analysis. Magnetic moment and reflectance spectral studies reveal that an octahedral geometry was assigned to all the prepared coordination polymers. Each metal ion is coordinated by a bis (bidentate) manner through oxygen atom of carbonyl group and the nitrogen atom of amide group of ligand and two aqua ligands by coordinated bond which formed five-member heterocyclic ring. The decomposition steps and thermal stability of these coordination polymers were studied by using thermal analysis techniques. The thermal stabilities of coordination polymers are explained on the basis of release of coordinated water and decomposition of backbone structure (ligand). The thermal studies inferred the presence of crystallized water in all coordination polymers except Co(II), whereas coordinated water was found in all polymers.

Separation and Identification of Some Metal Cations by TLC using Mixture of urea Formaldehyde Polymer and Starch as a Stationary Phase.

Vijay S. Nagpurkar; Lata Deshmukh; Lalitmohan J. Paliwal

The chromatographic behaviour of eight metal ions has been studied on mixture of laboratory prepared Urea formaldehyde and Starch as adsorbent layers using acidic and organic mobile phase. Starch and Urea formaldehyde are found to be more effective for the binary and ternary separation of metal cations. The effect of mobile phases were also studied on the retention behaviour of metal cations on various mixture of urea formaldehyde and starch as adsorbent layers.

Chromatographic Separation of Heavy Metal Cations on a Silica Gel-G with Amino Acid

S. M. Wanjari; Lata Deshmukh; Lalitmohan J. Paliwal

Thin layer chromatographic method has been developed for the separation of metal ions such as Cr(VI), Cr(III), As(III), Cd(II), Tl(III) and Hg(II) from their two, three and four component mixtures. The separations were performed on thin layer of silica gel ‘G’ using aqueous l-Alanine as mobile phase. The effect of concentration and pH of mobile phase on the Rf values of individual metal ions were studied and the optimum conditions for separation of metal ions from their mixture were determined.
