Factors Influencing the Activeness of Agricultural Co-operative Members in the Yogyakarta Special Region

This study aimed to determine factors that influenced the activeness of agricultural co-operative members, using logistic regression analysis. Data were obtained from interviews. Three agricultural co-operatives were selected as samples for analysis: Cinta Manis in Bantul Regency, Ngudi Makmur in Sleman Regency, and Suka Maju in Gunungkidul Regency. The results showed that income and loan arrears significantly influenced the activeness of agricultural co-operative members. It was found that when other variables remained constant, members who had higher incomes were more likely to be active. Moreover, members who had loan arrears, ceteris paribus, were less likely to be active than members who did not have loan arrears. On the other hand, age, educational level, gender, membership duration, and the existence of input (seed, fertilizer, pesticide, herbicide) into the business unit did not significantly influence members’ activeness.
