Internal Structure of the Characters Strengths Scale in Brazil

A investigacao das forcas e virtudes esta no centro das atencoes no campo da Psicologia Positiva porque evidencias sugerem que forcas de carater podem ajudar pessoas a lidar com as adversidades. Este estudo tem como objetivo avaliar a estrutura interna da Escala de Forcas de Carater (EFC), um teste com base no modelo de Valores em Acao, atraves de rigorosos metodos de retencao de fatores. Os participantes foram 426 estudantes universitarios brasileiros com idade entre 18 e 57 anos (M = 23.29, DP = 6.67). A analise fatorial indicou um fator, que explicou 32% da variância, como a solucao mais adequada para as 24 forcas de carater. Unidimensionalidade foi sugerida por diferentes metodos de retencao de fatores, o que nao corroborou resultados internacionais anteriores. A multiplicidade de papéis da mulher contemporânea e a maternidade tardia

Women currently have taken on many roles, previously fi lled by men, which not only changed their everyday lives but also impacted their life projects. Motherhood has been impacted in important ways by this change. We investigated the multiple roles played by contemporary woman and the relation between this multiplicity of roles and late motherhood. Two instruments were used: a socio-demographic profi le and a semi-structured interview about the multiple roles of women and motherhood. We constructed three categories based on content analysis of the interviews: the multiple roles of contemporary women; refl ections on motherhood; and late motherhood’s impact on current routine. If, on one hand, women are negatively affected due to the additional workload, on the other they feel happy to have developed a career. Late motherhood is an option for women who intend to develop their careers and maintain stable relationships with their partners. Adaptação do questionário de tarefas domésticas e de cuidado de irmãos

The aim of this study was to adapt the Household Responsibilities Questionnaire for the assessment of sibling care and household responsibilities among Brazilian adolescents. To do this, we carried out the translation and adaptation of items for the target population following the test-adaptation guidelines of the International Test Commission. Participants were 113 adolescents (61.9% female) with a mean age of 14.7 years (SD = 0.8) who answered the final version of the questionnaire. The set of items underwent principal axes analysis which revealed the two-factor solution as the most appropriate. The two factors, related to sibling care and household responsibilities, presented adequate alpha coefficients of 0.75 and 0.69 respectively. These results show evidence of construct validity for the questionnaire as well as reliability. Thus, this questionnaire enables systematic access to these phenomena, which can be critical to the advancement of knowledge and production of estimates at the national level.
