A novel fuzzy logic controller for indirect vector control induction motor drive

Yang Liyong; Li Yinghong; Chen Yaai; Li Zhengxi

This paper presents a novel fuzzy logic controller (FLC) for indirect vector control induction motor (IM) drive. The fuzzy logic speed controller is used in the speed loop. The 4 kW three-phase squirrel cage IM is fed by a current controlled voltage source inverter (CCVSI). The complete vector control scheme of the IM drive is implemented in real time using TMS320LF2812 digital signal processor. The simulation and experiments are carried out for the proposed drive system. The simulation model of the drive system is developed in MATLAB environment to analyze the performances of the novel IM drive system. The experimental results verify that the proposed FLC can not only enhance the robustness of the system, but also improve the steady-state precision and dynamic performances.

An improved Gaussian mixture background model with real-time adjustment of learning rate

Li Yinghong; Tian Hongfang; Zhang Yan

In this paper, an adaptive background modeling approach for moving object detection is proposed. Based on mixture Gaussian model suggested by Stauffer, a mixture Gaussians model has been built for each pixel and its learning rate can be adjusted dynamically according to the scene change from the frame difference. This approach has changed the strategy used in various improvements to re-initialize the model on the condition of light suddenly change. Experiments show that the adaptive background model proposed in this paper has good adaptability to complex environments, the convergence rate of the model can be speeded up, and the moving object can be detected effectively and rapidly in the case of light suddenly changing.

Li Yinghong; Pang Yi-gui; Li Zhengxi; Liu Ya-li

Target tracking is one of the essential tasks in video-based surveillance system. A novel method which combined Kalman with Mean shift algorithm in moving object tracking is proposed in this paper. In the Mean Shift algorithm, a new adaptive bandwidth and the kernel weights have been adopted, meanwhile the extended Kalman filter has been used in fast moving object track. Experimental results show that the proposed method performs well in video-based target tracking.

Xiong Changzhen; Pang Yi-gui; Li Zhengxi; Liu Ya-li; Li Yinghong

Vehicle tracking is one of the essential tasks in a video-based Intelligent Transportation System. A novel method for vehicle tracking is proposed in this paper. First, we analyze the disadvantages of the traditional parameterized model and compare them to the merits of the nonparametric model. Then the mean shift algorithm is deduced by using kernel density estimation in multi-dimensional space. Its convergence is proven using a simple method. In order to overcome the disadvantages of the original mean shift algorithm, this paper proposes an adaptive template and a kernel weights selecting method. The new method accelerates the convergence speed of the algorithm. When we apply this adaptive method, the experimental results show that the proposed method performs well with video-based vehicle tracing.

Dynamic programming approach for multi-bandwidth offset optimization

He Zhonghe; Zhang Xing-yuan; Li Yinghong

Traditional optimization methods of arterial offset usually take the maximum of green-wave bandwidths, or the minimum of delays as control objective, which does not build an analytic relation between delay and green-wave bandwidth. In this paper, the arterial offset optimization method that can be applied to road network is proposed. At first, the calculation model of green-wave bandwidth is proposed by analyzing the pattern of vehicle queues; furthermore, green-wave bandwidth calculated by this model has a linear relation with the traffic delay in each intersection, and the maximum of number of vehicles passing intersections over bandwidth is regarded as the control objective solved by dynamic programming. For the coordination of the network, arterial definition in area is given and priority of arterial coordination is determined based on traffic load. At last, the proposed approaches are applied to a road network, which shows that the green-wave bandwidth is improved 24% compared with numerical solution approach, and the proposed approaches realize optimization of queuing delay and green-wave bandwidth at the same time.

A method based on the convolution energy for testing vehicle license plate area

Li Yinghong; Li Zhengxi; Liu Ya-li; Wang Mu-shu

To test the vehicle license plate area is a main task based on video surveillance in ITS, especially for high-resolution video streams, now many kinds of methods are invalid for their complexity and slow speed. In this paper a new method was proposed to accomplish this task based on convolution energy. Firstly set an approximate detection area and generate brightness curve from the difference image projection. Through this curve the approximate position region of the vehicles can be located meanwhile the background model has been updated. Secondly take the advantages of the characters that the license plate owned complicated texture and sharp-cut contrast exterior to get the convolution energy figure, according to the vehicle license plate area possessed the maximum convolution energy to fulfill the testing of it. By this way on the one hand it can resolve the time-consuming problems when using background modeling to processing the high-resolution image, on the other hand it can also avoid to calculating the whole image convolution energy to achieve the purpose of real-time. Experiments show that this method has higher accuracy and robustness.

Node analysis and optimization strategy for regional traffic network system

Li Yinghong; Wang Li; Yin Yi-xin

Generally speaking, key junction nodes of typical urban region traffic network control system like SCOOT and SCATS need to be defined according to traffic flow and connected links number in reality. However, once the attack of traffic incident in hub node happened,it is difficult to insure the effectiveness and stability of whole traffic network.Considering the free scale features of urban traffic network, this paper discussed how to select hub node in weighted complex traffic network, adopted weighted node contraction method to evaluate node importance, which took network agglomeration as index. And the effectiveness of the method was proved through an application case. Then the optimization strategies for SCATS system based on hub node selection were provided.

Vehicle Detection from Videos Containing Complex Background Based on Bayesian Statistical Modeling

Li Yinghong; Liu Ya-li; Pang Yi-gui; Yin Yi-xin

This paper proposes a novel method for the detection and segmentation of vehicles from video traffic surveillance. A Bayesian decision rule is derived for background and foreground classification based on the statistics of a principle feature. The kernel density function is used to represent feature statistics. Considering that background pixel variation has strong spatial and temporal correlations, the pixels of the video’s background have been divided into two types of static or dynamic pixels which are described by different principal features. Foreground objects are extracted by fusing the detection results from both stationary and motional points. Gradual and sudden background changes, are addressed with different learning strategies proposed in this paper. Our experiments on traffic surveillance have shown promising results in extracting vehicles from their complex
