Abstract The structure of aerothionin, a tyrosine-derived brominated compound from the sponge Aplysina fistularis (Pallas), is confirmed by X-ray data, which with CD data assign its absolute configuration.

Infrared spectra-structure correlations. I. The effects of16- and 17- substituents on the solid state frequencies of 21-acetoxy-20-ketosteroid cakbonyls

Abstract The effects of substituants in the l6- and 17- positions on the characteristic group frequencies of 21-acetoxy-20-ketosterold carbonyls were studied. The spectra studied were obtained on solid state material in the form of nujol mull suspensions. This allowed the collection of data pertinent to poly-functional steroids not readily amenable to solution studies. Data from 254 spectra were used in this study and showed that carbonyl frequencies were relatively unperturbed by the nature of the substituents on the l6- and 17- positions.
