A novel architecture for remote home automation e-services on an OSGi platform via high-speed Internet connection ensuring QoS support by using RSVP technology

Evangelos Topalis; Loukas Mandalos; Stavros Koubias; George Papadopoulos; I. Nikiforakis

This paper discusses a novel architecture for remote home automation networks e-services on an OSGi platform via high speed Internet connections ensuring QoS support. These connections can be ADSL links, an emerging technology which provides the user of the local loop with broadband speeds. Since ADSL is a technology in the local loop, the presence of a signaling mechanism based on RSVP is necessary to maintain the high speed links through the network. So, a remote enduser who manages a home automation network can use an ADSL connection to assure the home automation e-services. Thus, guaranteed bandwidth as well as limited delay advances services can be achieved.

QoS support for real-time home automation networks management via high-speed Internet connection

Evangelos Topalis; Loukas Mandalos; Stavros Koubias; George Papadopoulos

This paper presents a novel architecture for home automation network management through high speed Internet connections ensuring QoS support. These connections can be ADSL links, an emerging technology which provides the user of the local loop with broadband speeds. So, a remote end-user who manages a home automation network can use an ADSL connection to assure the real-time transmission of images, video, signals, etc. Since ADSL is a technology in the local loop, the presence of a signalling mechanism based on RSVP is necessary to maintain the high speed links through the network.

General Principles for Interoperability Between Euro ISDN and ATM

Stavros Koubias; Loukas Mandalos; George Papadopoulos

Abstract This paper focuses on the requirements and functions of an Interworking Unit (IWU) which interconnects the Euro ISDN Primary Rate Interface with the ATM network, ensuring the network and service interoperability between the two networks. The structure of such an IWU is analysed, while emphasis is placed on the manipulation of the two different signalling protocols. The whole interworking takes place in the User-to-Network Interface (UNI). The user plane and the control plane are encountered separately. Finally, a network testbed relevant to a running academic project is being presented.

Integrating Euro-ISDN with ATM technology: interworking mechanisms and services support

Loukas Mandalos; Konstantinos Leonidou; Konstantinos Andreopoulos; John Drakos; Stavros Koubias; George Papadopoulos

This paper mainly analyzes the connection establishment phase within an InterWorking Unit (IWU), which interconnects an ATM network and Euro-ISDN network, in terms of network interworking and service interoperability. Thus, such an IWU operates as a gateway between these two networks, which differ in the transmission techniques that they use, as well as, in the services that they provide to their subscribers. The IWU handles the information of the control plane (out of band signalling) and the user data, to restore an end-to-end connection between subscribers of the two networks. Also, in this work the mapping of the user data is presented.
