Studies with 2-Arylhydrazono-3-oxopropanaIs: A Novel Route to 4-Aroyl-2-aryl-1,2,3-triazoIes, 3-Substituted 4-Arylazopyrazoles, 2-Substituted Glyoxalonitrile and 3-Oxoalkanonitriles

2-Arylhydrazono-3-oxopropanals 1 react with hydroxylamine hydrochloride to yield the corresponding oximes 3 that are cyclized into isoxazoles 9 on reflux in acetic anhydride and are converted into 2-arylhydrazono-3-oxonitriles (4) on treatment with pyridine. The reaction of 1 with hydrazines afforded dihydrazones 10 which were converted to arylazopyrazoles 11 when treated with pyridine, whereas treatment with an acidic reagent resulted in the formation of 3-aroyl-2-phenyl-l,2,3-triazoles 12.

New routes for the synthesis of 4,8-diaminoisoquinolines and pyridine utilizing a 3,4-diaminobut-3-en-2-one (2) as starting material are reported.

1-Substituted 3-Dimethylaminoprop-2-en-1-ones as Building Blocks in Heterocyclic Synthesis: Routes to 6-Aryl- and 6-Heteroaryl-2H-pyran-2-ones and 6- and 4-Arylpyridin-2(1H)-ones

Several new 6-substituted-3-acylamino-2H-pyran-2-ones 6a–j have been prepared from the reaction of enaminones 4a–f with N-acyl- and N-benzoyl-glycines; the enaminones 4a–c react with malononitrile in ethanol solution and in the presence of a base to yield amides 11a–c which are converted into 6-aryl-1,2-dihydro-2-oxypyridine-3-carbonitriles 13a–c on reflux in acetic acid.

Benzotriazol-1-yl-acetone as a Building Block in Heterocyclic Chemistry: a Route to Benzotriazolylpyridazines, Benzotriazolylphthalazines and Benzotriazolylpyrazolo[5,1-c]-1,2,4-triazines

Benzotriazolylacetone is coupled with aromatic diazonium salts to yield arylhydrazones, which can be condensed with ethyl cyanoacetate yielding pyridazinones whose reactivity towards activated double bond systems is investigated.
