Despite several evaluation models of IS, there is little by way of frameworks measuring value of enterprise applications in the public sector and government organisations. This paper proposes a conceptual framework that fills this need. The methodology used is literature survey on IS business value, public value of IS and value of enterprise applications. The framework recommends three dimensions – constituent service, productivity and political consideration, along with their measures, that constitute public value of enterprise applications. It provides a new multidimensional public value measurement that can be applied for assessing the impact of enterprise applications in the public sector and government organisations.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine the social entrepreneurship focussed organizations in the context of challenges faced and strategic actions adopted by them during the different stages of self-sustainable business model design and implementation. Design/methodology/approach – The empirical context involves the use of qualitative multi-case-based research methodology for data collection and analysis. The sampling involves undertaking the field study of social entrepreneurship oriented organizations, which have made the perceptible socio-economic difference in the lives of the rural and semi-urban population lying at the base of the pyramid (BoP) in India. Findings – The findings of this study are presented in two complementary stages. The first stage involves presenting the narrative incorporating the emergent themes and key characteristics of the social entrepreneurship focussed organizations based on the field-research based data collection and analysis. The second stage involves mapping...

The objective of this research study is to design an e-government organizational performance framework and to suggest ICTs solutions through a case study of Haryana state government in India so as to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of services provided to citizens. The framework is suggested using responses collected from 150 government departments. The ICTs solutions were validated by data collected from 90 e-government experts. A log linear regression analysis is used to develop the framework. The framework with minor modifications can be developed for similar other e-government settings.

With the emergence of cloud-based services, organisations now have a lucrative option for implementing ERP in the form of software-as-a-service SaaS. A review of the literature reveals that very few studies have examined the quality of SaaS. Using a revelatory case study of a client and their service provider, this study assesses the quality of ERP on cloud using SaaS-Qual and further explores new factors that may affect the quality of service. The study also investigates how service providers can work on these factors to enhance and differentiate their offerings. The results from the study suggest that constant feedback, two-way communication, realistic expectations of the client and low cost functionality also enhance the perception of service quality. In addition, the study also confirms some of the known factors affecting the service quality of SaaS. Thus, the study provides insights not only to SaaS vendors but also to enterprise users for enhancing service quality experience.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to help students understand how companies combine and leverage their existing knowledge capabilities in order to build strategic advantage for the company. The case also throws some light on the opportunities and challenges faced by SMEs of emerging markets in going international in turbulent macroeconomic scenarios. Design/methodology/approach – The case has been written for the purpose of teaching and class discussion. Interviews with protagonist provided the primary data and published reports and archives of the company provided the secondary data for the case. Findings – After the class discussion, students will be able to figure out how SMEs can best leverage their existing knowledge base, efficiently manage that knowledge base and accurately assess the impact of these knowledge management activities for international expansion. Originality/value – This is among the first few cases in the area of knowledge management from the perspective of SMEs in emerging m...

Purpose The increasing importance of electronic health (e-health) has raised the significance of exploring the factors influencing the users’ acceptance of e-health applications. There has been an extensive usage of the technology acceptance model (TAM) in e-health applications acceptance research. However, not all TAM relationships are borne out in all the studies. There is a variation in predicted effects in several studies with different user type and application type. The purpose of this paper is to bridge a research gap by providing a holistic view of the e-health applications acceptance research by integrating the findings of existing relevant literature. Design/methodology/approach A statistical meta-analysis of the effect size of causal relationships between common TAM constructs was conducted on 111 peer-reviewed academic studies published in various journals. Findings The results confirm the validity and robustness of the TAM in e-health applications acceptance research. Further, a moderator analysis based on user type and e-health application type demonstrated that the effect size of causal relationships between TAM constructs majorly depends on the user type, but not on e-health application type. Research limitations/implications This research provides a ready reference of the existing studies on e-health applications acceptance to the researchers. Further, if researchers or practitioners want to learn more about the particular user or application type, they may find the results valuable. Practical implications This research suggests that the general public can be used as the surrogates for patients in e-health applications acceptance research. The implementation strategy found successful for medical staff may not work for general public and patients. This research also suggests ways to enhance acceptance of e-health applications among different user groups. Originality/value The research is original and is based on the existing literature and its interpretation.

The forces of globalization have influenced organizations to extend the concept of IT outsourcing to IT-intensive business process outsourcing (eSourcing). Most of the research on managing outsourcing relationships has focused either on legal contracts or on strategic partnerships. Advocating a different viewpoint, researchers like Rousseau (1995) found that in reality everyday working of contractual relationships was governed by individual’s subjective interpretation and was fundamentally psychological in nature. The objective of this paper is to posit a relationship step model which projects a vital relationship management capability plus psychological contract perspective for eSourcing. It incorporates the stance of relational contract, interorganizational relationship and psychological contract theories. Using the qualitative research paradigm, the research model is preliminarily explored with case studies of two eSourcing suppliers. The exploratory results of this research indicate that relationship management capability of suppliers is an important factor shaping the outsourcing value proposition.
