The experience of the performance-related pay in Italy’s high school system

Rosaria Addamo; Bruno S. Sergi; Mark Esposito

1.3 trillion in 2014, and population of almost 200 million as of 2016, the EEAU could represent a geopolitical success that supports both Putins ambitious political agenda and the Unions economic prospects. Although the efforts of this Union are ongoing and long-term success is not certain, the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union can be considered a hybrid half-economics and half-political “Janus Bifrons” that serves as a powerful illustration of what Putin envisions for the post-Soviet space. Despite promising steps so far, more should be done toward the achievement of economic development and balanced opportunity for all Eurasian countries. Russias longstanding role within the Union, as well as its power and political motivations, are all considerations that must be accounted for.

Understanding business model - literature review of concept and trends

Sandeep Goyal; Amit Kapoor; Mark Esposito; Bruno S. Sergi

ABSTRACT This study employs dynamic ordinary least squares and panel co-integration to estimate advanced countries’ R&D spillover effects on labour productivity in 28 Sub-Saharan African countries over the period 1992–2011. Results show that African countries that import and receive (technical and non-technical) development aid from advanced countries experience an increase in labour productivity, suggesting that trade and aid are transmitters of foreign R&D. However, the extent to which labour productivity responds to R&D spillovers varies based on the country of origin, where spillovers from the USA have a greater impact compared to those from other advanced countries.

Linking up: inclusive business models for access to energy solutions at base of the pyramid in India

Sandeep Goyal; Mark Esposito; Amit Kapoor; Mahadeo Jaiswal; Bruno S. Sergi

Purpose This paper aims to draw on data from a survey research study conducted in Italy that explored the effects of performance-related pay (PRP) among 500 high school teachers. Design/methodology/approach Survey responses studies were conducted. Findings The results are consistent with theoretical predictions that monetary incentives for activities with a strong social impact may crowd out employee image motivation. This study documents that the use of monetary incentives is neither necessary nor desirable and the pay-for-performance does not affect the intrinsic motivation of teaching staff employees. Originality/value This work advances the conversation on relative pay in the field of higher education in Italy.

How to Design and Implement Social Business Models for Base-of-The-Pyramid (BoP) Markets?

Sandeep Goyal; Bruno S. Sergi; Mahadeo Jaiswal

This article undertakes the literature review to understand the emerging trends on the conceptualisation of business model theme. The purpose of this article is to stimulate the reflective introspection towards the feasibility of theoretical grounding of business model concept based upon the comprehensive review of the existing academic literature around business model theme. Since 1990s, business model theme has received increasing attention as a recipe for competitive advantage among the academic and practitioner communities. However, despite the attention, business model theme still lacks consensus on different attributes like definition, components, theoretical baseline, configuration and applicability for the emerging economies. The purpose of this article is to synthesise the research literature on business model theme and provide the diagnostic outcome of the same in terms of future scope and trends.
