Study on Localized Dermatitis of Young Shiro-hebi, albino Elaphe climacophora caused by Fungus Infection

山口県岩国市の白蛇研究会ならびに白蛇保存会の白蛇収容施設において飼育されている国の 天然記念物 ・岩国のシロヘビの幼蛇の中に,1971年 の春頃か ら,痂 皮形成を伴う皮膚症病が多 発している。 これらの病蛇は例年特に冬眠明けの4~5月 に多 く見 られ,そ の多 くは夏までの 期間に斃死している。 これら病蛇の発生予防と原因究明が,天 然記念物シロヘビ保存への重要 な課題 となっている。 外部所見:病 蛇は初期のものでは体表のところどころに体鱗の2~ 数鱗の幅で痂皮性の小 隆起が認められる程度であるが,病 状の進行したものでは,体 鱗を強 く押 し上げて龍骨状に痂 皮を形成 し,病 状の進展 と共に,体 軸に沿って発達 して くる。 これ らの病変部の体鱗や病皮直 下の組織には,剖 検により炎症が認められるものもある。軽症の個体では,脱 皮すると病変部 はその脱皮殻と共に消失するが,症 状のやや進行したものでは,脱 皮後もなお表皮に変化を認 め,時 間の経過と共に痂皮の再形成にまで進行する。 病理組織学的所見:体 表病変部を組織学的に観察すると,そ の表層には 真菌類のAspergillusと 思われる多数の菌糸が認められた。 痂皮の深層部では,炎 症性細胞の浸潤を伴う類壊死性組織が認められた。これ らの重症例の 斃死個体を解剖 し,内 臓諸臓器について肉眼的 ・組織学的に検索 したが,表 皮にみられるよう な菌糸の感染は認められず,ま た死因につながる重篤な変化は認め られなかった。

Study on Tumor-like Nodules in the Subcutaneous Tissues of Adult Shiro-hebsi, albino Elaphe climacophora

Tumor-like nodules of various size ranging from 2 to 8 scales were observed on the dorsal and lateral areas of the snake body. The tumors could be easily removed from subcutaneous tissue by incision. In some case, tumor were observed on the wall of body cavity that seemed to connect with that of the subcutaneous tumors through a passage of peripheral nerve. Histopathological findings revealed that the tumors were consisted of amorphous substance surrounded by thin epithelioid cell layer.
