Marcia Moraes

The article analyzes what philosophical implications actor-network theory may have in studies of the sciences. Actor-network theory has revitalized the debate on the sciences because it puts the focus on investigating science in action, that is, on science as it is actually practiced in the research laboratory. The concepts of subject and object, along with the concepts of truth, rationality, and scientific facts, are redefined from the perspective of actor-network theory. The article analyzes possible alliances between this theory and the philosophy of difference proposed by Deleuze, Guattari, and Serres.

The paper presents the main contributions of the research undertaken by the physician and philosopher Annemarie Mol for research in social psychology. In the field of science, technology and society studies, the investigations conducted by the Dutch philosopher represent a practical turn, making a difference in the way in which, traditionally, actor- network theory lies in this field. Mols research is characterized by the affirmation of practices performative character, which leads her to question the ways of knowing and intervening in social sciences. A CONTRIBUIÇÃO DA ANTROPOLOGIA SIMÉTRICA À PESQUISA E INTERVENÇÃO EM PSICOLOGIA SOCIAL: UMA OFICINA DE EXPRESSÃO CORPORAL COM JOVENS DEFICIENTES VISUAIS

Marcia Moraes

This paper aims to discuss how to carry out research with a group of visual handicapped youth. The text describes the work of a Corporal Expression Workshop with visual handicapped youth. To discuss the modes of producing knowledge with visual handicapped youth, we refer to Latour, Despret and Stengers. We start by problemizing the research field as something that is outside of our realm. Our final considerations, based on Latours symmetric anthropology, indicate that to intervene is to produce unedited realities and that the work of the researcher is to follow the actors in action.

Aqui eu sou cego, lá eu sou vidente: modos de ordenar eficiência e deficiência visual

Marcia Moraes; Ronald João Jacques Arendt

Situating itself in the field of science, technology and society studies (STS), this paper investigates different ways of ordering visual impairment, that is, the ways in which disability is made in different practices, in a specialized institution. Relevant documents are analyzed in the field of visual impairment and in some cases, allowing one to discuss the concept of disability as a deficit. This paper stresses that the relationship between body and visual impairment should not be summarized to identify the visually impaired with the absence of a sensory function.Through the cases investigated, the authors propose to investigate the visual impairment through a body in action, which is defined by means of connections it establishes with the most disparate elements, human and nonhuman. This paper concludes by pointing out the political relevance of multiplying versions of visual efficiency and impairment, and so to subvert the conception of disability as a deficit.

This study investigates the relations between body and cognition among visual handicapped youths. Two case studies are presented based on contributions from critical action research and from actor network theory. The subjects were born blind, both regular students enrolled at Benjamin Constant Institute’s Theatre Troupe, in Rio de Janeiro. These students were also members of Benjamin Constant Institute’s Body Expression Group that aimed to promote ludic body experimentations to easy the character building. The activities proposed were based on the difficulties experimented by the subjects when they were rehearsing the play. The results underlines that the notion of body implies connection between humans and non-humans and that to change body gestures is the same of creating new cognitives experiences. These results show the relevance of the relation between psychology and education.

EnglishAbstract The article proposes that mediation is a practice of accessibility in cultural spaces. The main argument focuses on the concept that accessibility, beyond what is provided in the technical manuals, is an action to be taken WITH people with disabilities, and not just for them. More than considering people with disabilities as targets for accessibility, it is relevant to take them as experts, as co-authors of mediation practices. In the wake of the discussion on accessibility in these terms, the article proposes that the narratives collected in meetings between people with and without disabilities are narratives of resistance, that is, narratives that challenge the hegemonic conceptions of disability as lack. In this sense, the text affirms that accessibility is also accomplished in meetings with people with disabilities, affirming its experimental character, which is not defined in the sense of being provisional, but rather in the one proposed by Helio Oiticica: a work of art is to be danced, embodied, lived, experienced. Finally, the work indicates that accessibility, rather than being provided by access to information about art works, is effected through an aesthetic experience that is sensitive, accessed and promoted by mediation practices that bring together people with and without disabilities. portuguesResumo O artigo propoe que a mediacao e uma pratica de acessibilidade em espacos culturais. Cristiane Moreira da Silva; Marcia Moraes

Inspired by authors like Latour (2008) and Despret (2011), the researchers put in question the distribution of expertise in the reality show. Five non-structured interviews were conducted with people involved in the TV show. The results indicate that the distribution of expertise
