OBJECTIVE Discussing the factors associated with major depression and suicide risk among nursing professionals. METHOD An integrative review in PubMed/MEDLINE, LILACS, SciELO and BDENF databases, between 2003 and 2015. RESULTS 20 published articles were selected, mostly from between 2012 and 2014, with significant production in Brazil. Nursing professionals are vulnerable to depression when young, married, performing night work and having several jobs, and when they have a high level of education, low family income, work overload, high stress, insufficient autonomy and a sense of professional insecurity and conflict in the family and workrelationship. Suicide risk was correlated with the presence of symptoms of depression, high levels of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and low personal accomplishment; characteristics of Burnout Syndrome. CONCLUSION Suicide risk among nursing professionals is associated with symptoms of depression and correlated with Burnout Syndrome, which can affect work performance.OBJECTIVE Discussing the factors associated with major depression and suicide risk among nursing professionals. The results revealed that these women’s perceptions of identity differed from before to after their mental illness. They perceived that their families were distant from them, with difficulty in dealing with the illness; that professionals were welcoming; and that psychosocial centers contributed towards reconstruction and expression of identities, thereby promoting self-knowledge, guidance and emotional support. However, they saw that the service lacked refinement of actions for ensuring rights and investment in new aid strategies with the capacity to defend possible identities that are flexible and adaptable. Objectives: To apply the nursing process of the self-care theory by Dorothea Orem and use Social Stories as a learning tool combined with the self-care theory to children with autism spectrum disorder. Methods: A qualitative descriptive study, single case of a child with Asperger syndrome, was carried out at the childs home, based on the theory of Dorothea Orem, with the use of the Social Stories. Data were collected by means of semistructured interviews, anamnesis and nursing interventions. Results: Three weekly interventions to encourage self-care and evaluations with the mother regarding the childs development were carried out. The child evolved from the partially compensatory system to the supportive-educative system due to the increase in self-care capacity to take a bath, brush his teeth, and clean himself after intestinal elimination. Conclusion: The association of the Orems theory with Social Stories was considered an effective strategy to encourage the childs self-care.Objetivos: Aplicar o processo de enfermagem da teoria do autocuidado, de Dorothea Orem, e utilizar a Social Stories como ferramenta de aprendizagem aliada a teoria do autocuidado pela crianca com Transtorno do Espectro Autista.
