Imagens construídas em torno da gravidez

Maria de Fátima da Silva Vieira Martins

The present article is based on a study carried in six municipalities of Braga district where we performed semi-structured interviews to 100 women who had just given birth in a maternity hospital in the northern area of the country and whose residence were located in the municipalities of Amares, Braga, Povoa de Lanhoso, Vila Verde, Vieira do Minho and Terras de Bouro. We tried to identify the representations of these women in reference to their pregnancy experience, where we point out that the origin of these representations is connected to a triangulate vision of the concept of health, illness and of the body. And all these concepts constitute extraordinarily positive aspects since some contribute towards an affectionate connection to the baby or a prenatal bond. It is important to point out that the knowledge hereby revealed is at most times a result of beliefs culturally rooted and that should be analysed or demystified upon the prenatal surveillance consultation.

The quality improvement of care provided to the pregnant women and newborn is one of the priority areas for intervention of the National Health Plan. While acknowledging that the measures introduced in recent years have contributed to lower the values of maternal and perinatal mortality, it should also be mentioned that unplanned pregnancies continue to occur, and that they often result in a delayed or absent prenatal surveillance. In this paper, we seek to reflect on the prenatal surveillance program under Primary Health Care relating to quality of health care provided in the context of reproductive health. We concluded that prenatal surveillance includes a set of specific care services targeted at a vulnerable group, constituting an important and susceptible area of evaluation in primary care. The quality improvement of care provided to the pregnant women and newborn is one of the priority areas for intervention of the National Health Plan.

Intentional sample consisting of 23 nurses. The photographic research method was used to identify the risks for patient safety in a Mobile Emergency Care Service in a city in Rio Grande do Norte (Brazil). The data were collected between March and June 2012 and organized in five phases: collection of pictures from safe and non-safe situations; selection of pictures based on the image quality; selection of pictures by experts on the theme; random selection of ten images; and application of picture analysis tool by the professionals. Content analysis and descriptive analysis were used. Results: the risks appointed in the study were: difficulties to store equipment and material; particularities of work in mobile emergency care; risk of infection; risk of traumas; and medication administration difficulties. Based on this information and confrontations with the literature, ten steps were suggested towards patient safety in emergency care, focused on the needs to reduce the risks presented. Conclusion: the risk analysis and the intervention proposal towards patient safety favor the quality of health care, with benefits in the following spheres: patient, team, equipment, professional and environment. These should be developed in accordance with the needs of each service
