OBJECTIVE:to evaluate the completeness, consistency and duplicity of cases of violence registered on the National Disease Notification Information System in Recife-PE, Brazil, 2009-2012.METHODS:descriptive study. The quality of this database was evaluated regarding the completeness and consistency of 35 variables and non-duplicity of records each year. Chi square for trend (p<0.05) was calculated.RESULTS:A 283.9% increase was observed in the number of notifications. The average percentage of completeness, consistency and duplicity was 70.3%, 98.5% and 0.2%, respectively. Comparing the number of notifications recorded in the 2009 and 2012, there was a 53.9% decrease in the degree of completeness and an increase of 66.7% in consistency. The percentage of duplicated cases was zero in 2009 and 0.5% in 2012.CONCLUSION:the average percentage of completeness, consistency and duplicity was considered regular, excellent e acceptable, respectively.

Introduction: It is still limited the acceptance and participation of companies in the implementation of the Hearing Conservation Program (HCP), which intends to prevent the evolution of hearing loss as a result of occupational noise exposure. Objective: To check the HCP effects from the analysis of the hearing profile of workers exposed to noise before and after the implementation of this program in a tiles factory in the city of Recife, PE. Methods: This was an observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study. A total of 71 workers’ medical records were used through which occupational history and audiological findings were investigated. It was considered the reference audiometry, the sequential audiometry before the HCP implementation and the sequential audiometry after the HCP. Results: There were significant changes in the threshold of reference audiometry more often than those regarding the audiometry done before the HCP. Also, there were fewer changes in the reference audiometry compared to the sequential audiometry done after the HCP implementation. Furthermore, some positive changes were observed for audiometric thresholds after the HCP, which suggests an improvement in the workers’ hearing condition. Conclusion: The preventive means adopted and encouraged by the HCP brought benefits to these workers hearing. DESCRIPTORS: Hearing. Occupational Health. Occupational Noise.

Purpose: to describe the evolution of speech-language pathologists supply in the Unified Health System (SUS) and in Primary Healthcare (PHC) in Brazil, from 2008 to 2013. Methods: an ecological study in which the analysis units were the 27 federative units of Brazil. Information from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) and the National Registry of Health Establishments was used as database, regarding the period from 2008 to 2013. This study calculated the indicators of speech-language pathologists supply in SUS and in PHC and the ratio of speech-language pathologists working in PHC among those working on SUS. In addition, the relative evolution of the coefficient of active speech-language pathologists in PHC during the studied period was measured. Results: an increase of the supply of speech-language pathologists both in SUS and in PHC was found in all federative units. In 2013, the supply coefficient of speech-language pathologists in SUS varied from 7.73/10(5) inhabitants, in Amapá, to 2.12/10(5) inhabitants in Amazonas. The same coefficient regarding PHC varied from 2.86/10(5) inhabitants, in Amapá, to 0.19/10(5) inhabitants in the Federal District. The states of Sergipe and Piauí presented the highest increases of the relative evolution of the speech-language pathologists’ coefficient in PHC, with increments of 800% and 788%, respectively. The lowest increase was in Mato Grosso do Sul, that is, 1.25%. Conclusion: there was an increase in the supply of speech-language pathologists in the Unified Health System and in Primary Healthcare, however, such supply raise occurred unequally among the federative units of Brazil.

A diagnostic analysis of care was conducted for rehabilitation of victims of accidents and violence in municipal districts of Pernambuco, Brazil, with over 100 thousand inhabitants. A cross-sectional and descriptive study was carried out. The principles of the triangulation method were followed because the study required the input of various informers and used a variety of collection techniques. An interview was conducted with the municipal manager of each district to map out and select the services to be analyzed. Questionnaires were applied to the managers of the services for identification of the unit, characterization of the activities and description of the structure. The results revealed that more than half of the services involved group care, prevention of relapses and neuropsychomotor stimulation. The team numbered 273 health professionals, with physiotherapists being the largest group (34.8%), followed by psychologists (13.5%), and speech therapists (12.8%). Only one municipal district supplied ortheses, prostheses and auxiliary equipment for locomotion. Deficits of some types of services and discrepancies in the distribution of such services were observed in the different areas of the state.

Methods: a sectional study was conducted, with elderly ≥ 60 years. Data collection was performed through the application of a socioeconomic and demographic questionnaire and protocols for the evaluation of functional independence and social communication. Functional independence was assessed through the scale of instrumental activities of daily living; And the media, through the media domain of the ASHA FACTS protocol. Data were analyzed through descriptive statistics and logistic regression. Results: 123 elderly, in the average age of 68 years (Standard Deviation=7 years), the majority being females (72, 4%) and dependent (64, 2%), were evaluated. Most elderly with insufficient social communication had functional dependence (70,9%). After control by sociodemographic variables, the social communication remained significantly associated with the functional dependency for the instrumental activities of everyday life (Odds Ratio=2.45; p=0.04). Conclusion: elderly people presented with insufficient communication show twice as much the chance of having functional dependence for the Daily Living Instrumental Activities scale, as compared to elderly people with sufficient social communication. Knowledge of such an association can contribute to improving the care and quality of life of this population.

Purpose: to understand the network performance of family health staff on child hearing loss. Methods: a qualitative case-study research. Data collection consisted in three focus groups of family health staff from district IV in the city of Recife. Data were analyzed by meaning condensation. Results: most professionals perform their functions individually, which might weaken the comprehensive health care. Additionally, the lack of interaction with other complexity levels to meet the various actions and the absence of counter-reference required by the staff prevents the child’s ongoing care. Conclusion: the teams’ organization and their relationships with other health care services are surrounded by weaknesses that make assistance ineffective regarding hearing health.

All data were transcribed and analyzed based on the interview analysis model of condensation of meanings. Results The family health professionals investigated made use of some resources to assess child reaction to sound stimuli, but they were mostly unaware of risk indicators for hearing loss and presented doubts about conducting referrals. Regarding child monitoring, the family health professionals reported that the lack of counter-reference by other professionals precludes the effective monitoring of children in the family health units. Conclusion Despite their potential in assisting child health, the role of family health teams is still permeated by weaknesses that hinder their performance with respect to hearing health.

Purpose To investigate factors associated with speech-language disorders in victims of motorcycle accidents. Methods This is a cross-sectional study. Victims of motorcycle accidents studied were treated at Hospital da Restauração between June and July 2014. The data were collected by consulting the records and direct interviews with these, at admission and after discharge. For analysis were raised single frequencies, average and chi-square test or Fishers exact test. The margin of error used in the statistical tests was 5%, and the intervals were obtained with 95% reliability. Results 99 individuals were studied, 90.9% male, the mean age of 32.7 years. It found a high percentage of 42.3% of drunk drivers and 51.5% were not enabled. The Head Injuries were present in 30.3% of cases. The most affected body area were the lower limbs (71.7%), followed by the head and face region (56.6%). It was also found that 30.3% had complaints of speech pathology after hospital discharge and a statistically significant association between speech therapy complaint and not enabled (p=0.012) and collisions between bikes (p=0.004). Conclusion There was a high percentage of lesions in the head and face resulting from accidents, associated mainly not eligible to drive bike and collisions between motorcycles, suggesting that these factors can aggravate injuries speech therapy.
