La influencia social de los cistercienses del sudoeste gallego en la Edad Moderna

This article examines the social influence of the Cistercian monasteries of Galicia, especially those situated in the province of Pontevedra, through the analysis of three fundamental aspects. First, make a brief tour of the community context in the modern period to try to check the influence they had in their immediate environment through jobs they generated. A second aspect is to deepen the religious practices performed by the monks inside the walls, but also in the spread of Marian devotions that developed beyond the monastic precincts. The last point will be devoted to the right of presentation that the monasteries had in different parishes where the clergy appointed to the attending and that certainly was an effective means of ideological control of society.
