The reorganization of the Brazilian health system, the principle of the decentralization and municipalization of the health services has demanded a deeper knowledge about its reality for peoples quality of life. The aim of this study is to observe the organizational strategies of the health care in the city of Juazeiro do Norte, located in the state of Ceara, through a descriptive field research, with a quantitative-qualitative approach, extracting indicators of the life conditions of populations and semi-structured interviews held with main management demands on the field of SUS. The results proved a reality similar to most Brazilian towns, marked by the lack of recourses in the sector, health problems of different complexities to resolve, demonstrating a reality with certain details, such as: the existence of a big migration population assisted by the health system. Thus, it is necessary to analyze SUS with further objectivity, by understanding it as a process in permanent construction, taking into account the several difficulties to be faced.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the impact that an educational intervention employing problem-solving strategies for the environmental control of aeroallergens has on environmental conditions in the households of children with asthma. The intervention was carried out by community health agents. METHODS: This was a prospective intervention study. The community health agents visited 95 households in which there were children (2-10 years of age) who had recurrent episodes of wheezing and dyspnea. All of the households investigated were in the city of Iguatu, Brazil. The educational interventions involved focus groups and community health agents. The focus groups were asked to brainstorm the educational measures to be implemented, in order to devise problem-solving strategies. After the intervention, 84 households were revisited and reevaluated. RESULTS: After the intervention, there was a significant decrease in the use of brooms for cleaning the floor (p = 0.02), in the use of coal-burning stoves (p = 0.001), and in the number of stuffed toys (p = 0.05). There was also a significant post-intervention improvement in the environmental control of aeroallergens in the bedrooms of the children (p = 0.003). Conclusions: The educational intervention applied in this study proved to be an important tool for the target population, improving environmental conditions in the households of children with asthma

Aim: To analyse the effect on the quality of life of children with chronic functional constipation when performing educational intervention on mothers, using the technique of focus groups, in a prospective randomized trial. Method: This study was conducted on the paediatric gastroenterology clinic of the teaching hospital of the Federal University of Pernambuco, from November 2012 to May 2013. A prospective study of educational intervention in health was applied on two randomized groups (experimental and control) that was formed from a sample of 55 participants according to the Rome III criteria. Mothers from the experimental group participated of a focus group that used active methods of teaching and learning in order to elucidate the biopsychosocial issues surrounding constipation. Children from both groups kept the usual treatment held by the paediatric gastroenterologist during the monthly medical visits. In order to measure the primary outcome - quality of life - the questionnaire PedsQLTM 4.0 Generic Core Scales was applied to both groups before and after the intervention. The data related to clinical parameters and quality of life of participants before and after the intervention were analytically compared in both groups with the significance level p ≤ 0.05. Results: This study included 55 mothers of children and adolescents with disorders of defecation, 11 in the educational intervention group and 44 in the control group. After monitoring the mothers that participated in focus groups for six months, the outcome quality of life was represented by a total score of 89.13, whilst the total score before the intervention was 78,26 (p=0,00). Conclusion: The quality of life of patients with functional constipation improved after the intervention. Therefore, the educational intervention on focus groups with mothers configure a therapeutic alternative to patients and families living with defecation disorders.
