The article reports a research work in the social histor ical domain, here defined according to two dimen- sions - a deterministic one and an imaginary one. The notion of discursive formation and some procedures of discourse analysis are used in the investigation of the conditions within w hich the writings of Carolina Maria de Jesus were produced. Social, geographical, linguistic, and historical determinations operating in the work and in the reception of her writings are pointed out. The operation of undetermined, random, and imaginary events - important ingredients in the creation and revelation of those writings - are also revealed. Still considering the social historical domain, the authors popularity and her written work are analyzed.

The articles purpose is to reveal the discourse enunciated by the workers of the Comupra - Community Counsel United pro Ribeiro de Abreu, a NGO from Belo Horizonte, about the positive (pleasure) or negative (suffering) meaning they attribute to their work. Besides being a factor of illness and health, the work is central in individual and social lives and it is one of the fields of study presently in expansion. Yet, in the NGOs from the Third Sector, it is still not much studied. Semi-structured interviews were the main knowledge collection tool. The obtained information was treated by means of discourse analysis. Six workers from the Comupra were interviewed. The analyses revealed that the positive meaning of the work surpass the negative meaning. The situations in which pleasure occurs are taken as more important than those provoking suffering, showing that the choice for working in the third sector is associated to an expectation of individual and community changes.

It was searched what music is for young musicians in Sao Joao del Rei, a city in the region of Campo das Vertentes, Minas Gerais, that daily lives with brass bands and bicentennial orchestras and where the musical activities are a strong reference in peoples lives, specially among children and teenagers. Adopting the psycho-sociological theory and its notions of social imaginary, life project and group as a cultural, symbolic and imaginary system, 21 young people from musical corporations in the city were interviewed. The transcribed interviews were submitted to procedures derived from archeological discourse analysis. It was tried to make explicit the role of musical activity in the youth’s life project building, that is, the modalities of social insertion of these subjects in their reality, their ways of projecting the future and of throwing themselves in the search of something to be realized.
