Eduardo I. Faúndez; Máriom A. Carvajal

ABSTRACT The arrival and establishment of the bed bug Cimex lectularius L., 1755 in Magallanes Region (Chile) is reported. The present record is the southernmost for this species in America. The circumstances that provided for the species reaching this southern locality are discussed.

Eduardo I. Faúndez; Máriom A. Carvajal

New data is provided for the Nabis punctipennis complex in Chile. New biological and distributional data are delivered for Nabis faminei. The distribution of N. punctipennis in Chile is clarified. A new species, Nabis ashworthi is described from Southern Chile. A key to the species of the complex present in Chile is included.

Kaytuesso flavolateralis gen. and sp. nov., a new monotypic genus of Oncomerinae (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Tessaratomidae) from Papua New Guinea

Máriom A. Carvajal; Eduardo I. Faúndez; David A. Rider

Kaytuesso flavolateralis gen. and sp. nov. is described from Papua New Guinea. The new genus is remarkable in that the only included species is one of the smallest species known within the Oncomerinae. The relationships among Kaytuesso and the related genera Agapophyta Guerin, Erga Walker and Musgraveia Leston and Scudder are discussed.

First Record of Aedes albifasciatus in Magallanes Region, Chile

Máriom A. Carvajal; Eduardo I. Faúndez

Aedes albifasciatus is known for transmitting western equine encephalomyelitis (WEE), a virus that can affect humans and animals. In this work, we record for the first time Ae. albifasciatus from the Magallanes Region in Chile, as the only culicid species known from this southernmost region. Although WEE poses a serious problem to cattle production in neighboring Argentina, no WEE has been recorded in Chile. The need for surveillance programs of WEE in Magallanes is also discussed here.

Description of the 5th instar nymph of Oenopiella punctaria (Stål, 1859) Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Pentatomidae), with new distributional records from Southern Patagonia

Eduardo I. Faúndez; Máriom A. Carvajal

The 5th instar nymph of Oenopiella punctaria (Stål, 1859) is described and illustrated for the first time, together with new distributional records from Patagonia. The new records are from Santa Cruz Province (Argentina), and the Magallanes Region (Chile). The latter is the southernmost record for this species and also for the Carpocorini in South America. In light of the new data, the biogeography of Oenopiella is discussed, and it is concluded that an Andean origin may be possible.

El género Planois Signoret, 1864 (Heteroptera: Acanthosomatidae) en la Patagonia Chilena The genus Planois Signoret, 1864 (Heteroptera: Acanthosomatidae) in the Chilean Patagonia

Eduardo I. Faúndez; Máriom A. Carvajal

Abstract The presence of the genus Planois in the Chilean Patagonia is analyzed and discussed. The first records from Aysen Region are given for Planois smaug, extending its distribution towards the north. In addition, the female internal genitalia of this species is described for the first time. Planois patagonus is recorded for the first time in Chile, based on specimens from Los Lagos Region. It is concluded that the spermatheca has a generic value on Planois, because it is shared by all the three species on the genus. The historical records on the literature are analyzed and discussed. An updated map of the distribution of Planois species in Chilean Patagonia is provided.

Abstract. The purpose of this application, under Article 23.9.3 of the Code, is to conserve the widely used specific name Elasmucha dorsalis (Jakovlev, 1876) for a species of subsocial acanthosomatid bug from East Asia. The name is threatened by the senior subjective synonym Elasmucha vicina (Uhler, 1861), which has seldom been used since its first publication. Therefore, precedence of the name Elasmucha dorsalis (Jakovlev, 1876) is proposed.

Revision of the Genus Tolono Rolston and Kumar, 1975 (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Acanthosomatidae), with Descriptions of Two New Species

Máriom A. Carvajal; David A. Rider; Eduardo I. Faúndez

Abstract The acanthosomatid genus Tolono Rolston and Kumar is revised. The generic description is modified slightly to accommodate the two new species described herein: Tolono confusus n. sp. is described from Ecuador and Colombia and T. pallidus n. sp. is described from Colombia. The first host plant record, Baccharis floribunda (Ruiz and Pav.) (Asteraceae), is provided for T. pallidus. A key for the identification of the species is provided.
