Direct N-alkylation of amines with alcohols was successfully performed by using nanosized zeolite beta, which showed the highest catalytic activity among other conventional zeolites. This method has several advantages, such as eco-friendliness, moderate to high yields, and simple work-up procedure. The catalyst was successfully recovered and reused without significant loss of activity and only water is produced as co-product. In addition, imines were also efficiently prepared from the tandem reactions of amines with 2-, 3- and 4-nitrobenzyl alcohols using nanosized zeolite beta.

An efficient and environmentally benign protocol for the synthesis of vicinal chlorohydroxy and chloromethoxy derivatives in a highly regioselective manner from olefins using NH4Cl as a chlorine source and oxone as an oxidant in aqueous acetone and methanol is demonstrated. This methodology offers an additive and metal chloride free approach and is endowed with simple reaction conditions, high yields a broad substrate scope and good functional group tolerance. Moreover, the aromatic substrates with a terminal double bond exhibited merely Markovnikov selectivity, while the internal alkenes show exclusive regiocontrol and low to moderate diastereoselectivity.

Regio- and stereoselective co-iodination of olefins using NH4I and Oxone

ABSTRACT A simple, efficient, and environmentally benign protocol for the synthesis of vicinal iodohydrins and iodoesters from olefins using NH4I and Oxone in CH3CN/H2O (1:1) and dimethylformamide (DMF) / dimethylacetamide (DMA), respectively, without employing a catalyst at room temperature is described. Regio- and stereoselective iodohydroxylation and iodoesterification of various olefins with anti fashion, following Markonikov’s rule, was achieved and the corresponding products were obtained in good to excellent yields. In addition, 1,2-disubstituted olefins afforded excellent diastereoselectivity. GRAPHICAL ABSTRACT

One-pot synthesis of α-iodoketones from alcohols using ammonium iodide and Oxone® in water

Marri Mahender Reddy; Peraka Swamy; Mameda Naresh; Kodumuri Srujana; Chevella Durgaiah; Tumula Venkateshwar Rao; Nama Narender

A novel protocol for the synthesis of α-iodoketones from alcohols has been developed. Using water as the reaction medium, ammonium iodide and Oxone® was proven to be an efficient reagent system for this reaction and afforded the corresponding α-iodoketones in moderate to good yields. The generality of this reaction was demonstrated with various secondary alcohols such as benzylic alcohols and aliphatic alcohols (acyclic and cyclic).
