Measurements and evaluation of PLC modem with G3 and PRIME standards for Street Lighting Control

Petr Mlynek; Martin Koutny; Jiri Misurec; Zdenek Kolka

The paper surveys narrowband power line communications (PLCs) in the context of Smart Grid and remote Street Lighting Control. The specifications G3-PLC and PRIME are discussed. The field test results and data rate measurements are presented for different scenarios. They demonstrate the problems encountered when the PLC signal is necessary to be sent through the switchgear, complicated topology, noisy topology and topology similar to simple street-light topology.

Random Channel Generator for Indoor Power Line Communication

Petr Mlynek; Jiri Misurec; Martin Koutny

The paper deals with creating an indoor power line model based on random parameters. This model approximates the real parameters of the power line communication with sufficient precision. A detailed analysis of earlier and current research in power line communication modelling, especially for power line models, is described. Measurement of transmission line parameters and power line model verification follows. Based on model analysis and load impedance measurement, a mathematical description of the model is designed. A reference model for different scenarios is realized too. The last part gives the analysis of this model and simulation results.

Analysis and Experimental Evaluation of Power Line Transmission Parameters for Power Line Communication

Petr Mlynek; Jiri Misurec; Martin Koutny; Radek Fujdiak; T. Jedlicka

Abstract The article describes a way of evaluating the power line channel frequency response and input impedance by means of the linear time-invariant (LTI) power line generator. Two possible methods are introduced for the calculation of primary parameters: the first method depends on the physical realization and physical dimension of the cable, and the second method is derived from the data provided by typical electrical cable manufacturers. Based on these methods, a comparison of transfer functions was made. This is followed by measurement evaluation and numerical verification on a simple topology

Noise modeling for power line communication model

Petr Mlynek; Jiri Misurec; Martin Koutny

Detailed knowledge of the interference scenario is necessary for power line communication (PLC) systems. PLC model with appropriate noise model creates the basics in a way of searching for the most powerful coding and modulation techniques. This paper brings an overview of PLC communication model focusing mainly on a noise scenario. Finally, a blocks of the PLC communication model are mentioned and the PLC simulation model is created concerning all major negative influences of the PLC environment.

Design of secure communication in network with limited resources

Petr Mlynek; Jiri Misurec; Martin Koutny; Ondrej Raso

The article deals with the design of secure communication for terminal devices in the energy sector via networks with limited resources. The key exchange and encryption method were selected in terms of security and energy consumption. Energy consumption needs to be solved for security methods to be implemented into low-power microcontrollers. An analysis of Public Key Cryptography for implementation into these microcontrollers was realized too. Finally, a library for basic and modular arithmetic operations was realized, and memory size and computational requirements were measured. The designed concept of secure communication can be used for future integration into Smart Grid networks.

Hybrid power line model based on frequency and time-variant system

Petr Mlynek; Martin Koutny; Jiri Misurec

The article focuses on a power line model realization based on frequency and time-variant system. The power line model is designed on a hybrid bottom-up approach based on set of topologies and random generation of topology parameters. Earlier power line modelling approaches are analysed. Based on this analysis and hybrid modelling approach, the linear periodically time-variant generator is proposed. This generator is based on frequency and time-variant system. The last part gives the simulation results.

HomePlug simulation model for analysis of the rounding functions

Martin Koutny; Petr Mlynek; Petr Mrakava

There are a lot of MAC approaches in the power line communication. This paper is focused on the most widespread broadband power line communication, HomePlug system. The paper deals with the medium access control function of the HomePlug system. The various probabilistic distributions were tested for random values generating. We show, that it is important to choose the suitable rounding function for a random integer number getting.

Medical traffic modeling for delay measurement in bottleneck network

Petr Mlynek; Jiri Misurec; Martin Koutny; Otto Dostál

The article deals with the delay of medical data in queues, caused by a bottleneck in the network. Primarily it focuses on the mathematical basis for defining the entrance traffic based on exponential distribution in the Network simulator and next it describes the possibility of calculating the delay from the trace file. Another alternative for the entrance traffic is also loading the input data from a file. In the simulation part a model of input medical imaging data is implemented, and simulations are performed on a network with a bottleneck, when the delay is measurement for different combinations of active input medical imaging sources.

Analysis of CSMA/CA used in power line communication

Martin Koutny; Petr Mlynek; Jiri Misurec

The back off algorithms are significant time consumptions function in the transmitting. This paper introduces a simulation of parameters of CSMA/CA and simulation of back off function of CSMA/CA used in power line technologies. The paper also describes the basic approaches for modeling of back off function and introduces simulation of this function with significant parameter. As will be seen, a few significant parameters for simulation of CSMA/CA with obtaining acceptable results could be used.

Hybrid statistical power line model for outdoor channels

Petr Mlynek; Martin Koutny; Jiri Misurec

The aim of the article is to create hybrid model based on statistical derivation of power line characteristic and consequent modeling based on probability distribution. The realized model can be used for generating power line transfer functions of outdoor channels. Thanks to this generator, the evaluation of complex power line systems can be realized on the database of power line topologies or power line transfer function for particulars channels.
