Status of the Kyoto University AMS system

M. Nakamura; Yuji Tazawa; Hiroshi Matsumoto; Masanori Hirose; Koya Ogino

The status of the Kyoto University accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) system is described. A sequential injection system with slow cycling has been developed for 14C measurements. The reproducibility in the measurements and the performance of the system have been examined.

Accelerator mass spectrometry at the Kyoto University tandem accelerator

M. Nakamura; Yuji Tazawa; Hiroshi Matsumoto; Masanori Hirose; Koya Ogino; Masuchika Kohno; Junji Funaba

Abstract An accelerator mass spectrometry system based on an 8UDH Pelletron at Kyoto University is described. The terminal voltage was controlled using 13C4+ ions which were dissociated at the terminal from molecular ions of 13CH−. Measured 14 C 12 C ratios show good reproducibility for the AMS system.

Development of high spatial resolution cold/ultra- cold neutron detector using fine-grained nuclear emulsion

We have been developing neutron detectors with spatial resolution of submicron to several tens of nanometers using fine-grained nuclear emulsion with nuclides with large neutron absorption cross sections such as 6Li and 10B. Those detectors were demonstrated their ability to detect cold and ultra-cold neutrons.

AXEL is a high pressure xenon gas TPC detector being developed for neutrinoless double-beta decay search. We use the proportional scintillation mode with a new electroluminescence light detection system to achieve high energy resolution in a large detector. The detector also has tracking capabilities, which enable significant background rejection. To demonstrate our detection technique, we constructed a 10L prototype detector filled with up to 10bar xenon gas. The FWHM energy resolution obtained by the prototype detector is 4.0
