End-to-end service management architecture and information model for MPLS VPN with dynamic SLA management

Wei Hong; Meng Luoming; Qiu Xuesong

MPLS is regarded as a technology for traffic engineering and QoS in IP-network. In this paper, we focus on the management of end-to-end VPN service based on MPLS, including system architecture and information model, which are crucial for ISPs to attract more customers and orders. We designed hierarchical architecture supporting dynamic SLA management, and also defined the supporting service information model by extracting and refining related information from the IETF MIBs. Prototype system has been implemented to verify the feasibility.

A generic lifecycle-based service management information modeling

Xia Hai-tao; Meng Luoming; Qiu Xuesong

The research of service management information model can bring forward the following benefits: unified service planning and provisioning, consistency among the functionality models in the service supply chain and correctness of the mapping between management requirements and management functions. In this paper, we have proposed a lifecycle-based generic modeling method on service management information, which adopts a requirement mapping in a top-down manner to define managed objects in the segments of service lifecycle. The model can be referenced as a meta-model to direct the development of service management systems. The research of service management information model can bring forward the following benefits: unified service planning and provisioning, consistency among the functionality models in the service supply chain and correctness of the mapping between management requirements and management functions. Network management system quality and evaluation index system

Lin Wei; Ye Yong; Li Jun; Qi Feng; Meng Luoming

To find an applicable method to evaluate quality of network management system is a precondition to improve quality of network management system and communication network operation. This article proposes a solution for evaluation index system, a key phase of quality evaluation process. After deep analysis of network management system characteristics, an evaluation index system is proposed, and each index is discussed. Application for indexes is also illustrated.

The study and implementation the VPN service management system

Qiu Xuesong; Xiong Ao; Meng Luoming

After proposed the framework of the VPN service management, the shortage of the current management information modeling methods in the network/service management is analyzed and the advantage of the ODP/UML based modeling method is given. The applying open distributed processing/unified modeling language (ODP/UML) for the management information modeling in the VPN service management is studied in detail. The implementation of the VPN SMS using CORBA is also given.

Integrated management model for terminal devices in pervasive communication networks

Rui Lanlan; Meng Luoming; Qiu Xuesong; Zhang Jie

Nowadays configuration parameters about network and service in intelligent terminals are getting more complex. Faults and security risks in the terminal are increasing. These have become key holdbacks for usage of services. So it is necessary to manage the terminals to keep them normal and promote satisfaction from customer. OMA and 3GPP have done researches about management of terminals. But there are some shortages, such as mainly focus on interface instead of functions in the management system, focus on maintenance about equipment instead of customer-aware service, varied information modeling that difficult to share, etc. According to the management requirements of terminals in pervasive communication network, an integrated terminal management model was proposed. A common information model for heterogeneous terminals was given and the reasoning mechanism based on the information model for pervasive communication service was analyzed. Finally, the management model, modeling method and reasoning mechanism were validated by designing and implementing a prototype system under a typical pervasive communication service scenario.

The Interoperability and Shared Management Information Model

Gao Zhipeng; Meng Luoming; Qiu Xuesong; Fu Xiaocui

The interoperability problem of different operational support systems (OSS) is analyzed and the problem is divided into two parts: system-level interoperability and model-level interoperability problems. This paper presents an ontology-based model: shared management information model, which is noted as SMIM, to solve the model-level interoperability problem. Then an improved similarity-based ontology mapping method is given to realize the one-more concept mapping. The similarity-based ontology mapping method divides the mapping process into five steps: ontology acquisition, ontology formalization, concept similarity estimation, ontology mapping, and result presentation. At last, a SMIM-based prototype system is introduced to show how system works with the help of SMIM mappingThe interoperability problem of different operational support systems (OSS) is analyzed and the problem is divided into two parts: system-level interoperability and model-level interoperability problems. A Web Services-Based Dynamically Cooperative Network Management Architecture

Zhang Yue; Qiu Xuesong; Meng Luoming

Heterogeneous network devices and management technologies bring many different kinds of network management systems. In traditional layered network management architecture, cooperation mechanism is not efficient enough for different network management systems to interact and cooperate with each other flexibly. Comprehensive network management tasks cannot be timely accomplished to meet with constantly evolving business requirements. Web services, widely deployed in system integration, are recently introduced to network management field. Based on Web services, we provide management functions of network management systems as network management services and propose a Web services-based dynamically cooperative network management architecture. Key technologies may be used in our proposed architecture such as description methods for manageable resources and management services, and service composition technologies are discussed in detail. With our proposed architecture, legacy systems can be integrated in an evolving way and more flexible management can be achieved.

Solution and architecture for integrated network management

Hu Ming; Wei Hong; Meng Luoming

This paper focuses on the integrated network management. An integrated management solution is introduced, which supports multiple technologies and multi-domain networks in an open architecture environment with increased efficiency and reduced cost. By using top-to-down oriented methodology, we realize the adaptation between service management layer and network layer, which can hide the difference of multi-technology networks and provide uniform services for upper layers. Related protocol-independent information models are defined by UML, by which we can cope with existing and emerging new telecom network and management technologies.

Architecture of the optical access network management system

Li Wenjing; Qi Feng; Meng Luoming

The variation and the complexity of the optical access network (OAN) bring the difficulties and challenges for the management system. In some degrees, the architecture of the OAN management system is different from that of the other parts of the telecommunication network. In this paper, the architectures of OAN management system, including functional architecture, physical architecture and information hierarchy are given, and the relationships with other systems of the local network are described.
