Featured researches published by Michael John Martinelli.

Tetrahedron Letters | 1988

Enynones in organic synthesis. I. Spiroannulation by tandem oxy-cope rearrangement-electrocyclic ring closure

Peter A. Jacobi; Lisa M. Armacost; Joseph I. Kravitz; Michael John Martinelli; Harold G. Selnick

Abstract Bis-acetylenic alcohols of proper design undergo a facile oxy-Cope rearrangement to afford mixtures of E- and Z-enynones. These latter compounds afford methylenecyclopentenones upon enolization and electrocyclic ring closure.

Tetrahedron Letters | 1988

Enynones in organic synthesis. II. An electron transfer mediated synthesis of methylenecyclopentenones

Peter A. Jacobi; Lisa M. Armacost; Joseph I. Kravitz; Michael John Martinelli

Abstract The electrocyclizaton of enynones to methylenecyclopentenones is markedly accelerated by phenols and catechols having a low oxidation potential.
