The generalized conservation laws of the lepton numbers are derived from the requirement of invariance under the gauge transformation involving the gamma /sub 5/ matrix. The lepton processss, especially pi - mu -e decay and BETA decay, are systematized by means of the conservation law. For the BETA decay process ths two component theory of the neutrino is naturally derived. However this is not so in the problem of the mu -e decay. Various characteristics of these and other lepton processes are discussed in detail. (auth)

Abstract The general theory of gauge transformations for multiplet vector fields is considered by extending the three-dimensional rotation group of the Yang-Mills type into any simple Lie group. The neutral vector theory, the Yang-Mills theory of the triplet field and the Gell-Mann theory of the octad field are obtained as special cases of our general theory. Main results concerning the latter theory are stated in the form of equivalence theorems. The theory is not renormalizable when the masses of the vector fields are not zero. General features of the theory are briefly reviewed in the last section.

Abstract It is proposed here to extend the idea of the neutrino charge of the leptons to all the elementary particles. No experiments have been found to contradict the assumption that parity is conserved when the neutrino charge is and that the neutrino charge changes by a constant in any process due to the weak interactions in which the conservation of the parity is violated. It is likely that the neutrino charges of the baryons and mesons can be assigned to be the same as their hypercharges.

Abstract Assuming that the conjecture of Okun and Pomeranchuk is valid, we derive the relations between elastic scattering amplitudes at high energy in the unitary symmetry models in which perturbation due to a symmetry breaking interaction is taken into account to any order. We also give results in three cases where the following assumptions on high energy scattering are included: (a) universality of the ratio of elastic to total cross sections, (b) addition of the Pomeranchuk theorem to the assumption (a), or (c) factorizability of total cross sections. It is shown that, at high energy, the equaliy of the total cross section of pion-nucleon scattering and that of kaon-nucleon scattering, which holds in the case of complete symmetry, is also valid in first order perturbation of the symmetry breaking interaction under the assumption (b) or (c).

An interaction Hamiltonian of the weak interaction between baryons and pions is described in the threedimensional charge space. In order to determine the types of interaction, a conservation law of extended chirality is speculated; the branching ratios and the absolute lifetimes of the nonleptonic hyperon decays are calculated and the results are compared with the experiments.
