Prólogo de los coordinadores

El presente monografico de REVESCO se edita cuando han transcurrido ya cinco anos desde el inicio de la crisis financiera internacional en el ano 2007. Lo que empezo con una crisis financiera en Reino Unido y en los Estados Unidos comenzo a contagiarse al resto de paises desarrollados, adquiriendo mayores proporciones al convertirse en crisis economica global, hasta la fecha solo comparable a la gran depresion iniciada hace casi un siglo, en 1929.

The Spanish Savings Banks: Analysis of Its Efficiency in Its Reorganization Strategy

In this paper, we analyze the evolution of saving banks from the point of view of their overall importance in order to interrelate them and be able to assess their progress in the decade preceding 2010, the year, together with 2011, in which the largest reorganization of this sector has taken place, going from 46 to only 15 institutions (including CECA), as a result of the survival of some of them and the merger processes or the creation of Institutional Protection Systems (IPS). Using a methodology based on data envelopment analysis, we evaluate their comparative efficiency and their position within the merger processes which start from 2010, showing significant differences between organizations.
