Leuchtdioden sind im Automobilbereich schon lange kein Fremdwort mehr. Die in der jungsten Vergangenheit verfugbaren Leistungen und Farben der LEDs waren ausreichend, um Innenraumbeleuchtung oder Signalfunktionen im Heckbereich zu realisieren. Inzwischen ist der Serieneinsatz von weisen LEDs fur Signalfunktionen im Scheinwerfer beispielsweise als Positions- oder Tagfahrlicht keine Raritat mehr. Der nachste Schritt, die serienreife Umsetzung der Hauptlichtfunktionen, steht bei Hella unmittelbar bevor.

Aktives Licht: Innovative Ansätze für die nächste Scheinwerfer-Generation

Neue optische Technologien erlauben in der naechsten Scheinwerfer-Generation eine noch gezieltere Verteilung des Lichtes im Strassenraum. Gepaart mit der Intelligenz von Sensoren und Datenverarbeitung, die zunehmend ins Fahrzeug Einzug finden, werden Lichtfunktionen ueber Adaptive Frontlighting Systems (AFS) hinaus realisierbar. Im Fokus steht dabei die situationsangepasste Modulation der Lichtverteilung oberhalb der heutigen Hell-Dunkel-Grenze (HDG). Markierungslicht und blendfreies Fernlicht zeigen exemplarisch, wie das naechtliche Fahren in Zukunft sicherer und komfortabler gestaltet wird.

LED technology in headlamps

Light emitting diodes have been an option in the automotive branch for some time now. The capacities and colors of LEDs available in the recent past were sufficient to realize interior lighting or rear signaling functions. In the meantime, series applications using white LEDs for signal functions in headlamps, as position or daytime running lights, for example, are no longer a rarity. For Hella, the next step — realizing main lighting functions for series applications — is imminent.

Future developments in LED headlamps

As a grounding-breaking innovation, LED headlamps are for the time being to be found in the premium segment. In order to transfer LED headlamps to the volume segment, concepts must be developed which are aimed at reducing the currently very high development and parts costs, as well as further increasing the system efficiency. Based on the experience which Hella gained within the framework of the development of the first LED headlamp in the Cadillac Escalade Platinum, concepts and solutions for meeting future requirements in relation to LED headlamps are described here.

CONCEPT OF AN ACTIVE FRONT-LIGHTING DRIVER ASSISTANCE SYSTEM

Abstract This paper presents the general idea and structure of an active front-lighting system that creates an optimal adaptive light distribution that prevents the glaring of other road users and marks hazard potentials. The concept represents a mechatronic system consisting of sensors, actuator, information processing, and a mechanical basic structure. In addition to the functional structure and basic organization of the information processing, hardware considerations for the implementation of the sensor and actuator side are shown.
