Drivers and barriers in sustainable manufacturing implementation in Malaysian manufacturing firms

Norani Nordin; Hasbullah Ashari; Mohamad Ghozali Hassan

Sustainable manufacturing practices seek to optimize production efficiency while minimizing environmental impact. Nowadays, the implementation of sustainable manufacturing practices in companies has increased. By implementing sustainable manufacturing practices, firms can gain better access to international markets; enhance business profile, consumer perceptions and corporate reputation and increase the manufacturing capacity. However, the implementation of sustainable manufacturing practices is posed to many drivers and barriers in light of the benefits manufacturing firms stand to gain from this initiative. This paper aims to investigate the drivers and barriers of sustainable manufacturing implementation in Malaysia. In this study, data were collected by using a self-administered questionnaires. The result shows that the increment in the overall cost of implementation is regarded as the main barrier to implementing sustainable manufacturing practices while environmental regulation and top management commitment are regarded as the main drivers. This research has been able to highlight the important barriers and drivers of implementing sustainable manufacturing practices through which industries can improve the manufacturing practices to offset the negativity on the environment.

Effect of relational-oriented exchange on strategic performance of outsourcing success using SmartPLS

Mohamad Ghozali Hassan; Abdul Aziz Othman; Mohd Azril Ismail

Relational-oriented exchange plays a major role in an organization’s development of strategic performance of outsourcing success in order to sustain competitive advantage. This paper used partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) to investigate the influence of relational-oriented exchange on strategic performance of outsourcing success among electrical and electronic manufacturing industries.Statistical results provide evidence to support the positive association between relational-oriented exchange and strategic performance of outsourcing success. This paper also demonstrates the implementation of SmartPLS as one of the statistical tools for the analysis of PLS-SEM in outsourcing management Malaysia.

The influence of environmental dynamism on strategic outsourcing success: A partial least squares structural equation modelling approach

Mohamad Ghozali Hassan; Mohd Rizal Razalli; Asmat Nizam Abdul Talib

Environmental dynamism is considered an increasingly important factor in creating competitive value by outsourcing management. The purpose of this study is to understand the relationship between environmental dynamism and outsourcing success. To meet this challenge, an empirical model was developed to investigate the role of environmental dynamism in strategic outsourcing success using two statistical tools, partial least squares and structural equation modelling. The results confirmed that the three dimensions of environment dynamism – namely customer demand, changes in technology and market competition level – have a significant positive effect on outsourcing success.

The Influence of Technology, Environment and User Acceptance on the Effectiveness of Information System Project Selection Using SEM

Syaifudin; Che Sobry Abdullah; Zulkifli Mohamed Udin; Mohamad Ghozali Hassan; Nor Azmi Johari

The selection of the present information system project is difficult because of the many factors that influence it. Information system project should pay attention to the user acceptance, technology and the environment in terms of their influence on the information system project selection. The purpose of this paper is to determine how much influence user acceptance, technology and the environment have on the information system project selection. This research uses data obtained from several ministries and analyzed using SEM (Structural Equation Models). The results found that the technology and the environment affects user acceptance. Moreover, technology and environment affect the effectiveness of the information systems project selection through the mediating effect of user acceptance. User acceptance, tested by the incorporation of usefulness and ease of use, the results are more modest and in line with previous theories. Furthermore, the external environment highly impacts the information system project selection.

Virtual integration as an approach to engender product innovation and accelerate product development time: A literature analysis

Geraldy Dadriyansyah; Amlus Ibrahim; Mohamad Ghozali Hassan

Global competitiveness has forced manufacturing firm, as an internal constituents, to work closer with their suppliers and customers in order to produce highly innovative product in shorter time interval. However as the business trends in manufacturing industry have evolved, centralized integration has become obsolete and no longer be efficient. Concurrent engineering methodology allows manufacturing firms to adopt a new collaboration approach called virtual integration. With the aid of computer-mediated communication, virtual integration is believed to be a promising solution to NPD collaboration issues. Therefore, this conceptual paper is aimed to seek for a new approach to engender product innovation which at the same time accelerates product development time in geographical dispersed setting through literature analysis. Some prepositions are developed to provide a preliminary understanding on this issue that would be beneficial for future research in this field.
