This work investigate the effect of the defected parasitic element and ring slot on the ground plane at the fork-like shape monopole antenna. Firstly, the basic fork-like shape antenna with a slot and parasitic patch had been designed in the CST Microwave Studio. Then, this antenna had been improved by embedded some defected structure in stage by stage at the ground plane - Design B, Design C, and Design D. The structure had been apply is the parasitic patch and ring slot. The optimal result of this dual-band antenna for Design D is 2.45 GHz and 5.22 GHz with a gain of 4.043 dB and 3.496 dB and the return loss of - 34.875 dB and - 18.03 dB. The target application for this antenna is at 2.45 GHz and 5.2 GHz of the frequency band.

Mohamad Hafize Ramli; M. Z. A. Abd Aziz; Mohd Azlishah Othman; Abdul Halim Dahalan

A dual band monopole antenna for Wireless local area network (WLAN) communication system is presented. The antenna has been designed with two meander branch monopole elements and the rectangular ground structure with simple configuration. The first branch is optimized by using a quarter wavelength of desired resonance frequency at 2.45 GHz. Meanwhile, additional branch of second branch brings resonance frequency of 5.8 GHz. This can easily suited by using 50 ohm probe feed with SMA connector. The proposed antenna is simulated by using Computer Simulation Technology (CST) software in order to simulate the return loss, bandwidth, gain, directivity, surface current and radiation pattern. The impedance bandwidth for return loss less than - 10 dB is 284 MHz and 267 MHz for first and second resonance frequency. In fact, second resonance can be adjusted by modifying the second branch length, LB1 with little effect on the first resonance.

In this paper, a dual-band copper rod monopole antenna for a wireless communication system is initiated. The antenna has been designed based on meander line technique using the monopole rod elements and rectangular ground structure. Each element of meander lines was designed with a half wavelength to radiate at a frequency of 2.4 and 5.8 GHz for Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) application. The proposed antenna was designed and simulated by using Computer Simulation Technology (CST) software. The bandwidth of reflection coefficient of less than −10 dB could be observed at (f1–f2) 331 MHz and (f1–f2) 358 MHz for Design A. Then, the additional cone and inverse-cone shape reflector shifted the frequency to the left from the 2.4 GHz band and to the right at 5.8 GHz band. The desired frequency could be obtained by adjusting the size of the copper reflector.

In this paper, we present a mathematical impedance modeling for a unit cell of the circle loop Frequency Selective Surface (FSS) structure. The unit cell of the circle loop FSS is designed and simulated based on industrial, scientific and medical bands (ISM) standard by using the CST Microwave Studio software. The configuration of FSS is simulated for two types; single layer and dual layer FSS. Based on physical parameters of the design structure of the FSS, real and imaginary component of the design has been modeled mathematically.

A multiband planar printed monopole antenna with Minkowski and Lollipop defected parasitic structure (DPS) for wireless communication system is proposed. The proposed antenna can create and work effectively to covers triband resonance frequencies at 2.4, 3.6 and 5.8 GHz within WLAN/WiMAX range in wireless communication system application. The Minkowski and Lollipop DPS has been place in front of and back of the multiband antenna that easily fed by using a 50 Ω microstrip line. The parametric study has been performed to analyze the best range of DPS from the proposed antenna. The simulated and measured impedance bandwidths for 10 dB return loss at first, second and third operating bands can be seen at (135 and 456) MHz, (380 and 272) MHz and (198 and 283) MHz respectively. The additional DPS helps to improve the return loss, bandwidth, gain, directivity. The simulation and measurement performance are well compared and discussed.

In this paper, the investigation of multislot and stacked layer on dual band dipole antenna is presented. The effect of the stack on dipole and a slot dipole with a stacked antenna was looked into for different types of slots. Three slots were focused in this paper, which were H-slot, T-slot, and U-slot. All the designs were designed and were simulated using Computer Simulation Technology (CST) software. The investigation was done on the return loss and the radiation patterns of the dipole antennas based on the effect of different types of slots. The simulation results showed that the multislot and stacked layers improved the efficiency and the bandwidth of the basic dipole antenna at 5.8 GHz.

In practical wireless communication application, bandwidth enhancement becomes one of the major design considerations. At the same time, circular polarized (CP) antenna received much attention for the applications of modern wireless communication system when compared to linear polarized (LP) antenna. This is because CP antenna can reduce the multipath effect. Hence, broadband antenna with operating frequency at 2.4GHz for WLAN application is proposed. The proposed antenna is done by using L-probe amendment with rectangular patch. The rectangular patch and copper ground plane is separated with 10mm air gap. This approach is used to enhance the bandwidth and the gain of the proposed antenna. The bandwidth of the designed antenna is more than 200MHz which meet broadband application. The return loss for the antenna is below -10dB to achieved 90% matching efficiency. The position of L-probe feed is altered in order to obtained different polarizations. The broadband antenna had been designed and simulated by us...

Investigation of the monopole antenna performance on hybrid material substrate

Ong Teik Kean; Badrul Hisham Ahmad; Mohamad Zoinol Abidin Abd Aziz; Noor Azamiah Md Fauzi; Mohamad Hafize Ramli; Mohd Fareq Abd Malek

In the current telecommunication system, more applications such as GPS and video conferencing which need higher data rate has been discovered. In order to provide higher data rate, wider system bandwidth is needed for transferring data in a shorter time. Thus, an antenna which can provide wide bandwidth is significant to cover the desired system bandwidth. Recent researches also show that the using of hybrid substrate can improve the antenna performance. This paper investigates the monopole antenna performance on hybrid material substrate. The monopole antenna has been simulated in Computer Simulation Technology (CST) software in open space condition to investigate the antenna performance in resonant frequency, bandwidth, return loss, gain, directivity, and efficiency. Investigation shows that the increment of dielectric constant of hybrid material substrate, ɛr2 increases the return loss of frequency band from 2.9-6.6GHz without affecting the operating bandwidth. Notably, the increment of ɛr2 also brough...
