Purpose – The purpose of this study is to investigate the concept of knowledge management (KM) readiness using intention to be involved in the KM processes concept. These processes comprised of socialisation, externalisation, combination, and internalisation (SECI processes). The research also attempts to measure and validate the concept using data collected from the Sri Lankan telecommunication industry.Design/methodology/approach – Based on the established KM SECI process measures adopted and adapted, instruments were administered using a survey research methodology approach on 313 executives working in the selected organizations in the Sri Lankan telecommunication industry. A confirmatory factor analysis technique was performed to verify and validate the measurement model of the intention to be involved in KM processes model. Based on the revised measurement model, the level of intention to be involved in the KM SECI processes within the industry was then reported.Findings – The research finding provid...

Knowledge Management (KM) is recognized by many organizations as an important tool in promoting competitiveness and organizational sustainability. However, it has been stressed that the organizational readiness for KM needs to be assessed before embarking on the actual implementation. A comprehensive review of the KM literature reveals that very limited information is available on KM readiness. In view of this, a comprehensive research model for organizational readiness for KM process implementation is proposed. Based on this model, the extent of KM readiness in Malaysian public sector organizations can be investigated. The methods employed for the overall research will be focus group interviews and survey.

An evaluation on organizational readiness for knowledge management (KM) process implementation is recommended before embarking on actual implementation. This study aims to measure the perceived KM readiness of a Malaysian higher education institution and to find the contributing factors of it. A model was developed and hypotheses were formulated. Data were collected from a sample of 46 academic staff using a survey. The findings shows that the institution is ready for KM process implementation, but only organizational strategy, ICT use, and performance expectancy of KM were became significant contributing factors out of seven factors proposed in the model. This study can be considered as the starting point for future studies in this area of KM and the proposed research framework might be applied in different settings and context to make it a robust. The concept of organizational readiness for knowledge management (KM) has been studied extensively from different perspectives in the recent past. KM supportive organizational factors such as KM oriented organizational culture, organizational structure and information technology infrastructures, and factors of individual acceptances are believed to be the predictors of KM readiness. However, the nature of those factors arguably suggests that they may not merely the predictors; rather they can be the dimensions of KM readiness. This work tries to verify this hypothesis. For this purpose, a questionnaire was formulated based on established measures, and administered using survey research methodology approach on 313 executives working in the selected organizations in the Sri Lankan telecommunication industry. The first order measurement model using AMOS version 16 was used to validate the measurement employed. Subsequently, a second order analysis was performed to test the hypothesis. Findings shows that all model fit indices are good and all the structural coefficients are significant, thus, the model fit to the data. Therefore, the current work proposes that the KM oriented organizational factors, individual acceptance and behavioral intentions should be considered as the dimensions of KM readiness.

The main focus of this work is to investigate the predictors of knowledge management (KM) behavior among university academics within the prevailing organizational climate. The KM behavior has been operationalized using SECI process (components of knowledge creation theory). A hypothetical research framework has been developed based on TRA, TPB and some related previous works. Survey based quantitative research approach was used. The data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire among 156 academic staff comprising different rank from a public university in Malaysia. After data screening, data reduction and reliability testing process, linear and stepwise multiple regression analysis were performed using SPSS. Though most of the hypotheses proposed were supported by linear regression analysis, only trust among colleagues and Effort expectancy of KM were emerged as the strong predictors of KM behavior according to stepwise multiple regression.

Factors that influence knowledge management (KM) and knowledge sharing (KS) have many potential benefits in the decision-making process for augmenting organizational performance. The main purpose of this study is to examine the antecedent factors that predominately influence academics’ Knowledge management and sharing (KM&S) intention for universities KM practices. The study primarily investigates how and which individual, organizational and technological factors impact on academics’ KS intention. This study has commissioned a Pilot phase with a quantitative technique using PLS-SEM method, deploying IS theory in its research framework. The study empirically assessed using survey data that was collected from 100 academics in two leading public universities in Bangladesh. The study analyzed both Structural model and Measurement model and tested hypotheses. The findings of this study have revealed that 9 out of 12 constructs have influenced significantly on academics’ KM&S intention upon universities innovation.

The SECI (socialization, externalization, combination, and internalization) process is considered as root components of knowledge management. Socialization and internalization are believed to be closely linked to tacit knowledge while externalization and combination related with explicit knowledge. In this backdrop this study investigates the predictors of behavioral intention on SECI process with the aim of identifying the influencing factors of tacit and explicit knowledge activities. Trust, ICT use, performance expectancy and effort expectancy were considered as predictors in this study to reflect the socio technical nature. Data were collected from 313 executives in the Sri Lankan Telecommunication Industry using self-administered questionnaires. Data analysis was conducted using the partial least square technique by utilizing smart PLS version 2.0. The findings and its implications were discussed in the later part of the paper.

In this paper, we show the design considerations of using QR code in the evaluation of academic poster presentations. Most researchers focused their study in the usability and implementation of a QR-code in mobile applications. While its use and implementation can be applied to many areas, its adoption is still at an infant stage. This is due to poor design considerations which affects users satisfaction and ease of use. In our research, we designed and developed a mobile online judging application called MOJA to be used by judges in the IIUM IRIIE 2014 poster exhibition and performed a survey to measure users satisfaction in using the application. Our results show that most of the users are satisfied with MOJA based on their perceived usefulness of our application in their judging process. Additionally, we showed that their perceived ease of use influenced users to use MOJA in their future judging process, as well as, their willingness to recommend MOJA to their friends and colleagues.
