Structural and spectroscopic characterizations on the charge-transfer interactions of the second generation poly(propylene amine) dendrimers with iodine and picric acid acceptors

Mohamed Y. El-Sayed; Moamen S. Refat

Herein, this study was focused to get a knowledge about the intermolecular charge transfer complexes between the second generation of poly(propylene amine) dendrimer (PPD2) with picric acid (PA) and iodine (I2) as π and σ-acceptors. The charge-transfer interaction of the PPD2 electron donor and the PA acceptor has been studied in CHCl3. The resulted data refereed to the formation of the new CT-complex with the general formula [(PPD2)(PA)4]. The 1:4 stoichiometry of the reaction was discussed upon the on elemental analysis and photometric titration. On the other hand, the 1:3½ iodine-PPD2 heptaiodide (I7(-)) charge-transfer complex has been studied spectrophotometrically in chloroform at room temperature with general formula [(PPD2)](+)I7(-). The electronic absorption bands of 2I2·I3(-) (I7(-)) are observed at 358 and 294 nm. Raman laser spectrum of the brown solid heptaiodide complex has two clearly vibration bands at 155 and 110 cm(-1) due to symmetric stretching νs(II) outer and inner bonds, respectively. The (1)H NMR spectra and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) data of PPD2 charge-transfer complexes were discussed.

Image fusion approach with noise reduction using Genetic Algorithm

Gehad G. Mohamed; Mohamed Y. El-Sayed; Ghada El; Ahmed Fouad

Image fusion is becoming a challenging field as for its importance to different applications, Multi focus image fusion is a type of image fusion that is used in medical fields, surveillances, and military issues to get the image all in focus from multi images every one is in focus in a different part, and for making the input images more accurate before making the fusing process we use Genetic Algorithm (GA) for image de-noising as a preprocessing process. In our research paper we introduce a new approach that begin with image de-noising using GA and then apply the curvelet transform for image decomposition to get a multi focus image fusion image that is focused in all of its parts. The results show that Curvelet transform had been proven to be effective at detecting image activity along curves, and increasing the quality of the obtained fused images. And applying the mean fusion rule for fusing multi-focus images gives accurate results than PCA, contrast and mode fusion rule, Also, GA shows more accurate results in image de-noising after comparing it to contourlet transform.

Complexes of nalidixic acid with Ca(II), Mg(II), Zn(II), Fe(III), and VO(II) ions, have been synthesized and characterized by means of microanalysis, conductance, IR, NMR and UV-Vis spectroscopy and thermogravimetric (TGA/DTG and DTA) measurements. The ligand coordinates in a bidentate mode via one carboxylate oxygen atom and the oxygen atom of the pyridine carbonyl group. The kinetic thermodynamic parameters such as: activation energy E*, ΔH*, ΔS*, and ΔG* have been estimated using Coats and Redfern as well as Horowitz-Metzger equations. Antimicrobial activity of the obtained complexes against some kinds of bacteria and fungi has been evaluated.

The complexation between lanthanide metal ions like Nd(III), Tb(III), and Er(III) with Glimepiride produces 1: 1 molar ratio (metal: Glimepiride) monodentate complexes of general formula: [M(GMP)(H2O)4]Cl3·xH2O, where: M = Nd, Tb, and Er, x = 1, 10, respectively. The structures of obtained compounds were assigned by IR, 1H NMR and UV/Vis spectra. Themogravimetric analysis and kinetic thermodynamic parameters have proved the thermal stability of Glimepiride complexes. Obtained lanthanide complexes showed significant effect against some bacteria and fungi.

The complexation between the lanthanide metal ions Ce(III), Gd(III), Nd(III), Tb(III), and Er(III) and gliclazide produced 1 : 1 molar ratio metal: gliclazide (Glz) complexes coordinated in a monodentate fashion via the OH group and having the general formulas [M(Glz)Cl3(H2O)]·xH2O (M = Ce, Gd, Nd and x = 1, 3, 4, respectively) and [M(Glz)(H2O)4]Cl3·yH2O (M = Tb, Er and y = 1, 2, respectively). The structure of the synthesized lanthanide gliclazide complexes was assigned by IR, 1HNMR, and UV-Vis spectroscopy. Thermal analysis and kinetic and thermodynamic parameters gave evidence for the thermal stability of the Glz complexes. The latter showed a significant antimicrobial effect against some bacteria and fungi.

M.G. Abd El-Wahed; Mohamed Y. El-Sayed; Samy M. El-Megharbel; Yasmin M. Zahran; Moamen S. Refat

During the past two decades, considerable attention has been paid to the chemistry of the metal-drug interactions. It has been suggested that the presence of transition or non-transition metal ions in biological fluids could have a significant effect on therapeutic action of drugs. The successful synthesis, interpretations and application of novel metal complexes can have a great impact on all areas of chemistry and biology. It’s worthwhile to study the synthesis and characterizations of some complexes containing nucleus of sulfonylurea’s which have a widely known concerning the biological application in our life. As yet from the literature survey, little information is available about the metal complexation of sulfonylureas compounds, which are effective as coordinating ligands with the functional sites like sulfon-amide group. In view of the biological, physico-chemical properties and industrial importance of these ligands and their metal complexes, the aim of the present work is to shed light on the understanding about the nature of interaction and chelation between metal ions and these moieties, investigation of the physico-chemical properties of the ligand and their metal complexes and screening of the ligands and their metal complexes for their biological activity. Sulfonylureas are the most commonly prescribed diabetes medicines. They are inexpensive and have few side effects. These medicines help your body make insulin. They can be taken alone or with metformin, an alpha-glucosidase inhibitor, pioglitazone or insulin. If you’re allergic to sulfa, you can’t take a sulfonylurea.

New Approach for Image Fusion Based on Curvelet Approach

Gehad G. Mohamed; Mohamed Y. El-Sayed; Ghada El

Most of the image fusion work has been limited to monochrome images. Algorithms which utilize human colour perception are attracting the image fusion community with great interest. It is mainly due to the reason that the use of colour greatly expands the amount of information to be conveyed in an image. Since, the human visual system is very much sensitive to colours; research was undertaken in mapping three individual monochrome multispectral images to the respective channels of an RGB image to produce a false colour fused image. Producing a fused colour output image which maintains the original chromaticity of the input visual image is highly tricky. The focus of this paper is developing a new approach to fuse a color image (visual image) and a corresponding grayscale one (Infrared image – IR) using the curvelet approach using different fusion rules in new fields. The fused image obtained by the proposed approach maintain the high resolution of the colored image (visual image), incorporate any hidden object given by the IR sensor as an example, or complements the two input images and keep the natural color of the visual image.

Thymine vanadyl(II) compound as a diabetic drug model: chemical spectroscopic and antimicrobial assessments.

Mohamed Y. El-Sayed; Moamen S. Refat

The aim of this study was to synthesize a novel bifunctionalized thymine vanadyl(II) compound. The solid vanadyl(II) compound has been characterized by elemental analyses (CHN), Raman laser, infrared spectra, molar conductivity, electronic spectra, thermogravimetric analyses (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) studies. Electronic and magnetic measurements have confirmed that the speculated geometry of vanadyl(II) compound is square pyramidal geometry. The microbial test was performed for the vanadyl complex against some kinds of bacteria and fungi. The results suggested that [VO(Thy)2] adduct has an anti-diabetic profile.
