Alias Abdullah; Muhammad Faris Abdullah; Muhammad Nur Azraei Shahbudin

Although geographical information system (GIS) is being used as a tool in Malaysian development process, this is being limited to the planning and design stage of the process. There have been very few Malaysian initiatives to further the usage of GIS into the operation and post-operation phases of the development process. This paper looks at the effort by International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) in developing GIS-based system to assist the management of her campus.

PUBLIC BUS LEVEL OF SERVICE PERFORMANCE IN PENINSULAR MALAYSIA: CORRELATION ANALYSES ON LEVEL OF SERVICE (LOS) AND PASSENGERS’ SATISFACTION LEVEL

Zakiah Ponrahono; Syahriah Bachok; Mariana Mohamed Osman; Mansor Ibrahim; Muhammad Faris Abdullah

This study explore the stage bus performance of 48 routes within selected urban and regional settlements in Peninsula Malaysia, using a quantitative traffic engineering measure known as Level of Service standards or LOS and validated through the evaluation of passengers’ satisfaction level. The findings on the level of service (LOS) highlight the poor performance of the urban and rural bus service with the tolerable threshold below D. There are clear disparities on LOS and passenger satisfaction level between the urban and rural bus operation systems in terms of frequency, operation hour, bus speed, and passengers’ load threshold Keyword: Level of Service (LOS), stage bus, passengers’ satisfaction Date Received: 30 April 2016 Date of Acceptance: 30 October 2016 Zakiah Ponrahono, Syahriah Bachok, Mariana Mohamed Osman, Mansor Ibrahim, & Muhammad Faris Abdullah Public Bus Level of Service Performances in P. Aisyah Abu Bakar; Mariana Mohamed Osman; Syahriah Bachok; Ismawi Zen; Muhammad Faris Abdullah

The environment should appear not only as a commodity to humans but as an inspiring source that appeals to humans’ ethical ability. In Malaysia, studies concerning factors influencing pro-environmental behaviours are vast. However, studies on interrelationships between humans and the contextual surroundings are scarce. Towards achieving sustainable well-being, it is undoubtedly important for humans to have conforming emotions, behaviours, cognitions and motivations towards the environment. This study intends to identify the determinants of human values and ethical behaviour concerning the environment towards developing a theoretical framework of interrelationship between human and environment. The theme of ‘Sustainable Well-Being in Architecture and Environmental Sciences,’ for this special section edition would be the platform for scholars, researchers, and practitioners from the Built Environment profession to share ideas and expand networking. I believe that this special section is timely to address concern on sustainable well-being, which is the pursuit of having a ‘good life’ within Earth’s carrying capacity. This pursuit involves addressing ‘well-being’ in a holistic way and adjusting to the planetary boundary and can evolve in many directions when explored in different contexts

Rapid development in Malaysia has lead the family institution to experience challenges in ensuring safety of the family members. The safety of children is a serious matter and currently parents tend to be more vigilant on the issues of safety among children. Overall, the study focus on the safe distance allowed by parents or adult families member of their children to travel from their homes to the public places such as schools, shopping mall, public facilities, bus stations and parks. This study adopted quantitative analysis of face to face questionnaire survey distributed to 4,500 respondents in the Klang Valley. The sampling techniques for the data collection were stratified and simple random sampling method. From this study, it was found that the main factors that influenced parents and guardians to allow their children to travel alone or by group are the children age. Based on the analysis, majority of parents and guardians do not allow their children to go to public places especially at night and alone.

Mariana Mohamed Osman; Hanisah Ab Wahab; Muhammad Faris Abdullah; Mohd Zain Mohamed

Illegal occupation and operation of state land has negatively impacted the states in many ways, especially in terms of revenue loss and environmental pollution. To counter these impacts, states government have undertaken measures to curb illegal occupation and operation of state land. This study reviewed PATUH, a programme undertaken by the State Government of Perak to curb illegal occupation of government land in the state. Information regarding PATUH was obtained through interviews with officers from key government agencies in Perak. It was found that while PATUH has managed to reduce the amount of cases of illegal occupation of state land, it did not do well in recovering revenues to the state. This study proposes that land charges under PATUH should be increased if revenue to the state is to be significantly improved.
