Education Process and Development of Environmental Design Project

ABSTRACT The environmental design process can be described as designing and sustaining the places where people live in the external environment. Within this concept, the stages in the Environmental Design course at KTU and their outcomes will be addressed in this study. The project education process starts with the determination and analysis of the current situation and ends with defining the subject, developing ideas for design and shaping this option. It will be attempted to show how to create different options for the same subject by providing from student works and how to develop the project education process of environmental design. The purpose of this education and paper is to regulate knowledge and to help the designer reach and use correct information at the right time. The eigenvalue of this study is to teach the preparation of environmental design projects approach in landscape architecture education and to explain the benefits of education.

The Organization of Psychiatric Hospital Gardens (Open Space Therapy Units) and The Criterions Need to Be Considered

Urban open and green spaces provide health to individuals and reinforce their health situations. Sakici (2009) gave the name of ‘open space therapy units’ to psychiatric hospital gardens and she asserts these units have healing, therapeutic and health-giving effects on people who have psychiatric or mental disorders such as psychological traumas and overstrains. Open space therapy units are one of the most required spaces for psychiatric hospitals as well as during patients’ treatment processes as they help patients by touching to nature to regain their lost abilities, to socialize to each other, to get away their stress and troubles, and to feel at peace themselves. The importance of open space healing units, their spatial organization and contributions to users issues are quiet new in Turkish context and elaborative studies on these issues have not been investigated, yet. On the other hand, the importance of these units and other issues have better understandings in abroad and the number of the studies related to these issues have been increasing in recent years. There are number of subjects required to be researched in this new field. Therefore, the purposes of this paper are to create design decisions for hospital gardens by adhering to existing design programs and to present the criterions need to be considered while organizing these gardens. In this sense, it is thought that this study is going to fill an important gap in this study field and present beneficial results for it

Bitkilerin karakteristik ozelliklerinin gece vurgulanmasinda aydinlatma tekniklerinin onemi buyuktur. Ancak yerinde ve dogru aydinlatma teknikleri uygulamalari ile istenilen etkiler ve ayrica farkli bir cekicilik olusturulabilir. Aksi takdirde yanlis uygulanan aydinlatma teknikleri birakin gosterisli gorunmeyi insanlari rahatsiz eden, kotu bir goruntu sergileyebilir. Bu calisma ile bitki aydinlatmasinin nasil yapilmasi gerektigi ve farkli form ve teksturdeki bitkilerin karakteristik ozelliklerinin vurgulanmasinda uygun aydinlatma tekniklerinin ortaya konulmasi amaclanmistir. Ayrica degisik bitki formlarinin ya da bitkilerin farkli baskin ozelliklerinin ortaya cikarilmasi icin farkli aydinlatma teknikleri onerilmistir. Peyzaj tasarimlarinin en onemli parcasini olusturan bitkilerin estetik degerlerinin ve baskin karakteristik ozelliklerinin gece de vurgulanabilmesi icin farkli aydinlatma tekniklerinden yararlanilmistir. Sonucta aydinlatma tekniklerinin bitkilerin tekstur, form, yaprak, cicek, meyve ve govde guzelligi, dallanma sekli, sonbahar renklenmesi gibi fiziksel karakteristiklerinin vurgulanmasinda buyuk bir oneme sahip oldugu ortaya cikmistir
