Design and implementation of mobile RFID technology in the CDMA networks

Myunghee Son; Yong-Joon Lee

This paper describes the mobile RFID technology for E-business as focusing on design and implementation. Last year, the rate of Internet accessible mobile phones in Korea was 89.5% but the rate of utilizing mobile wireless Internet was 28%. The packet price in the wireless communication, lack of diversity of contents, and uncomfortable user interface restricts access to the services in the wireless Internet. To solve the following problem such as lack of diversity of contents and uncomfortable user interface we propose mobile RFID technology. Until now, many RFID technologies have been developed rapidly in the control of goods in stock and the marketing structure. However we suggest the mobile RFID technology to extend RFID technologies with the high quality mobile environments in Korea

Topology Discovery in Large Ethernet Mesh Networks

Myunghee Son; Byung-Chul Kim; Jae Yong Lee

Automatic discovery of physical topology plays a crucial role in enhancing the manageability of modem large Ethernet mesh networks. Despite the importance of the problem, earlier research and commercial network management tools have typically concentrated on either discovering active topology, or proprietary solutions targeting specific product families. Recent works [1]-[3] have demonstrated that physical topology can be determined using standard SNMP MIB, but these algorithms depend on Filtering Database and rely on the so-called spanning tree protocol (IEEE 802.1d) in order to break cycles, thereby avoiding the possibility of infinitely circulating packets and deadlocks. A previous work [1] requires that Filtering Database entries are completed; however it is a very critical assumption in a realistic Ethernet mesh network. In this paper, we have proposed a new topology discovery algorithm which works without the complete knowledge of Filtering Database. Our algorithm can discover complete physical topology including inactive interfaces eliminated by the spanning tree protocol in LEMNs. The effectiveness of the algorithm is demonstrated by an implementation.

New Electronic Service Code Encoded on the UHF Class 1 Gen 2 Tag for B2C RFID Services

Myunghee Son; Taewan Kim; Hyun-Sook Cho

A new electronic service code is introduced, in contrast with the electronic product code in order to activate RFID contents based services rather than recent supply chain oriented management services. This paper defines and describes the new electronic service code tag data, including how it is encoded on the UHF Class 1 Generation 2 tag. The electronic service code easily support backward comparable with EPC. Unlike supply chain based RFID codes, the electronic service codes provide the necessary information for searching the location of online contents of relevant codes. Also the electronic service code has dynamic and flexible characteristics so I design it with simplifying code resolution function to activate E-business based on RFID.

A safer way to share a car based on SNS to increase use efficiency of released vehicles

Myunghee Son; Ok-Gee Min; Jong Hyun Kim; Sung Hoon Baek

Due to rapid urbanization, a parking space in cities is very insufficient, and moreover, a use efficiency of released vehicles is greatly reduced. To solve such problems, a car sharing service has been introduced, but focuses on a service that overcomes limitations of rental cars. Our paper is focused on providing the safest car sharing service based on SNS(Social Networking Service) to increase a use efficiency of released vehicles. More particularly, a direct transaction between a car sharing service provider and a user can be provided. Therefore, it is not required to separately construct an infrastructure for the car sharing service. Our paper can be contributed to maximize the usability of the used car and to solve a problem which is lack of parking lots by using the cyber security mechanism.

Fuel economy validation of the smart microhybrid system for used cars

Myunghee Son; Seong-Su Park; June-Young Chang; Sung Hoon Baek

We developed a smart microhybrid system for used cars to improve fuel efficiency via the OBD-II interface. The proposed smart microhybrid system can accurately measure the amount of fuel that is saved by stopping engine idling and estimates the amount of fuel that is consumed when the engine begins to start. It automatically determines when is optimal to stop or start the engine using various driving status. The system was implemented and tested in a used car. Experimental results show that it outperforms conventional cars not equipped with the smart microhybrid system in fuel economy. We will massively reduce CO2 by using smart microhybrid systems and prove the possibility of the CDM (clean development mechanism) project.

Multiple spanning tree protocols in 10-Gb Ethernet edge system

Myunghee Son; Jong-Hyup Lee; Yoo-Kyoung Lee

The IEEE 802.1D STP is a kind of layer 2 link management protocol which provides path redundancy while preventing undesirable loops in the network. And it is based on all spanning tree protocols using an algorithm that calculates the best loop-free path through the network. The IEEE 802.1W RSTP provides rapid convergence comparing to 802.1D STP and the IEEE 802.1S MSTP allows frames assigned to different VLANs to follow separate paths, each based on an independent Multiple Spanning Tree Instance, within Multiple Spanning Tree Regions composed of LANs and or MST Bridges offering RSTP feature. These regions and the other Bridges and LANs are connected into one common spanning tree about three types of STPs.

Development and Construction of Security-Enhanced LTE traffic signal system in Korea

Myunghee Son; Hoon Jung

As urbanization increases, traffic congestion and road safety problems become serious social problems. Korea has 1.6 times higher urbanization rate than the world average due to rapid industrialization. Therefore, it is imperative to improve the quality of traffic to complete Smart City with traffic congestion cost of 2.62% of GDP, national logistics cost of 12.5% of GDP, and traffic accident cost of 1.53% of GDP in 2008. In this paper, we propose a secure LTE — based communication method for smart — intersection construction for open and optimal operation of traffic signal information. For the last 25 years, Korea has been managing signal operating conditions and fault conditions with a low-speed wired communication infrastructure between traffic lights and traffic control centers. In order to share signal information between traffic light and traffic control center for remote signal operation and optimum signal operation, we are making a breakthrough in high speed wireless communication infrastructure. Traffic signaling system design is required by security. In this paper, we propose the actual field test results by developing the technology to solve the security vulnerabilities that are concerned when using existing LTE as communication infrastructure between local controllers and the remote controller. We expect that the results of this paper will be an important infrastructure that can significantly reduce shipping costs in future urban congestion situations.
