We have synthesized and characterized a panel of new binuclear mixed valence Cu(I,II) complexes containing substituted 2-alkylthio-5-arylmethylene-4H-imidazolin-4-ones with unusual structure. These complexes are shown to be cytotoxic for various cell lines. We have found that these compounds did not intercalate DNA, inhibited number of polymerases (telomerase predominantly), accumulated in the cell nucleus, and caused DNA degradation. Preliminary studies revealed that lead compound inhibited human breast adenocarcinoma growth in mice model.

Regioselective synthesis, biological evaluation and 3D-molecular modeling for a series of novel diastereomeric 2-thioxo-5H-dispiro[imidazolidine-4,3-pyrrolidine-2,3-indole]-2,5(1H)-diones are described. The studied compounds have been tentatively identified as potent small molecule MDM2/p53 PPI inhibitors and can therefore be reasonably regarded as promising anticancer therapeutics.

The possibility of remotely inducing a defined effect on NPs by means of electromagnetic radiation appears attractive. From a practical point of view, this effect opens horizons for remote control of drug release systems, as well as modulation of biochemical functions in cells. Gold-coated magnetite nanoparticles are perfect candidates for such application. Herein, we have successfully synthesized core-shell NPs having magnetite cores and gold shells modified with various sulphur containing ligands and developed a new, simple and robust procedure for the purification of the resulting nanoparticles. The carboxylic groups displayed at the surface of the NPs were utilized for NP conjugation with a model enzyme (ChT). In the present study, we report the effect of the low-frequency AC magnetic field on the catalytic activity of the immobilized ChT. We show that the enzyme activity decreases upon exposure of the NPs to the field.

Reactions of potassium dihaloiodates with arylcyclopropanes and polycyclic compounds containing a cyclopropane fragment characterized by different degrees of strain lead to formation of mixed 1,3-halogenation products. If iodohalogenation should give rise to products having a iodine atom in the benzylic position, 1,3-dichloro or 1,3-dibromo derivatives are formed. Iodohalogenation of exo-tricyclo[3.2.1.02,4]octane is stereoselective and is accompanied by Wagner-Meerwein rearrangement.

Transformations of gem-dichloroarylcyclopropanes in the reaction with NOCl·2SO3. Synthesis of 3-aryl-5-chloroisoxazoles

O. B. Bondarenko; A. Yu. Gavrilova; Dilovar S. Murodov; N. S. Zefirov; N. V. Zyk

Nitrosation with complex NOCl·2SO3 of gem-dichloroarylcyclopropanes containing acceptor substituents in the aromatic ring proceeded chemo- and regioselectively affording 3-aryl-5-chloroisoxazoles in high yields. The presence of donor substituents complicated the reaction by the occurrence of competing processes.

Purpose – Gold clusters supported on oxide surface are most promising as active sites as biochemical sensors, in optical industry and catalysis, but there is no information about application of these nanoparticles in analytical chemistry for the chromatographical separation of organic compounds. Thus, the aim of this paper is the development of new separation systems based on gold nanoparticles.Design/methodology/approach – The novel nanohybride system based on gold nanoparticles, cysteine and inorganic matrixes was synthesis. The results were obtained by the combined approach consisting quantum‐chemical calculations, direct organic synthesis and using chromatography investigation of obtained sorbent for separation of aminopyridines.Findings – The structure optimization of cysteine‐gold cluster complexes reveals that adsorbed acid greatly changes the structure of gold nanoparticle and, consequently, changes its properties. The most bond energy is calculated for L‐form 82 kcal/mol. Material based on alumin...

Formation of CuI(CH3CN)4ClO4 in the reactions of copper(II) perchlorate with acetonitrile in the presence of sulfur-containing organic compounds

E. K. Beloglazkina; A. V. Shimorsky; A. G. Mazhuga; O. V. Shilova; V. A. Tafeenko; N. V. Zyk

Cu(ClO4)2·6H2O was shown to react with 2,2′-[propane-1,3-diylbis(thio-2-phenylnemethylidene]-bis(3-pyridylamine) (I) or (5Z)-2-ethoxycarbonylmethyl-(2-pyridylmethylidene)-3,5-dihydro-4H-imidazol-4-one (II) in the presence of CH3CN with the reduction of copper(II) to copper(I) and the formation of the tetrahedral complex CuI(CH3CN)4ClO4 (III). In the course of the reaction the organic ligands I and II were oxidized to the corresponding sulfoxides.

Synthetic Approaches to Physiologically Active Polycyclic Compounds: VI. Synthesis of 1-[(2R,3S)-N-Benzoyl-phenylisoseryloxy]-4,4-dimethyladamantane

O. N. Zefirova; E. V. Nurieva; N. V. Zyk

A convenient procedure was proposed for the synthesis of 4,4-dimethyladamantan-1-ol from 2-adamantanone. Esterification of the product with protected amino acid gave 1-[(2R, 3S)-N-benzoylphenyl-isoseryloxy]-4,4-dimethyladamantane.
