In the study, main purpose was to determine the effect of population growth along with the increase in urbanisation, motor vehicle use and green area amount on the temperature values using a 55-year data set in Erzurum, which is hardly industrialised, and one of the coldest cities with highest elevation in Turkey. Although the semi-decadal increases, means of which are 0.1°C for mean, minimum and maximum temperatures, are not clear enough to make a strong comment even in the lights of figures or tables, it was found as the result of the statistical analysis that population growth and increases in the number of vehicles, the number of buildings and the green area amount in the city have no significant effect on mean temperatures. However, the relationships between population growth and maximum temperature; and the number of vehicles and minimum temperature were found to be statistically significant.

Remotely sensed images are a resource for researches in wide study area. Based on thermal remote sensing technique, Land Surface Temperature (LST) changes analyses were made after construction the Dam of Kozjak near the capital of Republic of Macedonia. Two Landsat 5 remotely sensed images from 1984 and 2011, were used before and after construction of the dam, respectively. The LST of the images was automatically calculated by using LST retrieving tool in Erdas IMAGINE software. The analyses were made using zonal statistics within the boundaries of the previous created buffers of 100 meters, up to 1 km around the dam. The results showed that, the surroundings Land Surface Temperature values has decreased maximum 8.5 °C and has also lowered the boundaries of the minimum, maximum and mean values of the region after the dam construction.

Ozet: Calisma Kars kent merkezi alan kullanimi uzerine yapilmistir. Kars kent merkezinin toplam alani 2505 ha olup, bunun 1035 ha konut alanlari, 198 ha kentsel calisma alanlari, 149 ha koruma alanlari, 134 ha kentsel sosyal altyapi alanlari, 320 ha acik yesil alanlar ve yol alanlari olarak belirlenmistir. Imar planina gore, Kars kentinde acik yesil alan miktari 320 ha olup, 2000 yili kent nufusu (103.602) goz onune alindiginda, kisi basina 31 m2 acik yesil alan dustugu belirlenmistir. Calisma yapilan alandaki olcumler sonucunda, mevcut durumdaki aktif acik yesil alan miktarinin kisi basina 1,02 m2, pasif yesil alan miktarinin ise 42,1 m2 oldugu tespit edilmistir. Anahtar kelimeler: acik-yesil alan, rekreasyon, alan kullanimi The Numerical Analysis of Kars City Open and Green Areas Summary: The study was carried out on the land use of urban area city center of Kars. The total land area, of Kars city center is 2505 ha, of which 1035 ha is residential area, 198 ha is urban working area, 149 ha is protection area, 134 ha is urban social infrastructure area, 320 ha are open and green spaces and street areas. According to land use plan, size of green area is 320 ha in Kars. Considered population of Kars in 2000 is 103.602, green space per person is 31 m2 .According to the measurements in the area, the available size of active open and green space per person is 1,02 m2 and the size of passive green space is 42,1 m2 .In present situation, total parking area is 6,6 ha that means 0,64 m2/person and total children play ground is 0,6 ha that means 0,06 m2/person. In order to reach required standarts, a parking area of 51 ha and a children play ground of 22 ha are needed. According to measurements and observation which were carried out, the most suitable land use for the central of urban was determined and thus the most appropriate system of open and green space was suggested. Keyword: open-green space, recreation, land use
