6-axis Control of Polishing Robot Using an Ultrasonic Vibrational Tool

The study deals with the automatic polishing works by use of an industrial robot with 6 degrees of freedom and an ultrasonic vibrational tool. 6-Axis control is required to set a plate-shaped tip of tool in the tangential direction against a workpiece surface. The system generates 6-axis control polishing path on the basis of CAD data, and converts the path into the robot control data. From experimental results, it is found that the system is effective to polish the corner, and the side and bottom of groove.
