The present study examines the climate sensitivity of the agricultural production of Odisha, a state at the east coast of India. The two climatic variables which have been taken for the study are temperature and rainfall. The study has adopted the Ricardian approach to assess the impact of climate change on the net revenue from agricultural production of Odisha. Panel regression model has been used to test the relationship between climate and other control variables on net revenue. Results of the study reveal that climate has significant influence on the agricultural production of Odisha. The possible future climate scenarios are found to have negative impact on the net revenue from agricultural production of Odisha towards the end of twenty-first century, which call for some policy attentions.

In this study, an attempt has been made to unravel the impact of forest protection committees (FPCs) under JFM on stress migration in four forest divisions of Orissa. In order to undertake this study, field investigations have been carried out in 12 villages of four forest divisions of the state. Our study has covered 318 households comprising of landless and agriculture labourer, marginal, small, and medium farmers from 12 different villages where FPCs are operating since early 1990s. The household level benefits have been estimated in terms of employment generation, income from timber and non-timber forest products (NTFP), and fuel wood collection from community managed forests. Further, we have examined the impact of JFM via FPCs on environmental stress migration (ESM) by adopting a Logit Regression Model at household level. It has been found that the employment opportunities have increased significantly since the establishment of FPCs. The findings of the study establish that the improvement in forest cover under JFM has positive impact on the reduction of stress migration in the study area. The ESM, which was severe in these villages before the implementation of JFM, has come down significantly over the years. Our results have also established that the health of local labour market has improved a lot due to the proper and sustainable utilization of the CPRs through JFM.

The study has tried to investigate the status of the financial inclusion of tribal people in two tribal concentrated districts, namely Bolangir and Mayurbhanj, in the state of Odisha. Field investigations were undertaken to find out the status of financial inclusion in six villages of these two districts where the proportion of the tribal population was larger than that of the total population. Primary data were collected from 300 households by using a semi-open survey schedule. It was found that about 71.7 per cent of households had no savings bank accounts; 70.7 per cent were not involved in self-help group activities and 97.7 per cent did not have post office savings accounts. Additionally, a logit regression model was used to identify the various determinants of financial inclusion of tribal households. The results revealed that years of education attained by the household head, size of private-owned land, total annual income of the household and participation in the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) were significant determinants for financial inclusion among tribal people.

The purpose of this paper is to explore the barriers to sustainable tourism management (STM) implementation in a protected area (PA) of a developing country, India, by taking a case study of National Chambal Sanctuary (NCS).,This study develops a framework to analyse the interaction among a set of barriers of STM using the interpretive structural modelling approach.,In this study, 16 relevant barriers responsible for the failure of STM in Indian scenario have been selected. The lack of coordination among various stakeholders and the lack of government incentives are found as the most significant barriers among the selected barriers of STM implementation in the sanctuary.,This study provides most influencing barriers and how these barriers hinder the sustainability efforts in NCS. The study’s main limitation is its generalisation. The problems in implementing sustainable practices may differ with the region.,This study provides strong practical inferences to both practitioners as well as academicians. The practitioners are suggested to focus on identified barriers and formulating strategies to achieve sustainability in the tourism sector. Academicians may propose the solutions and necessary interventions for identified barriers.,Identification and presentation of barriers to STM implementation in the context of a PA are rare to find in literature.
